About the role
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have implemented a number of safety precautions at all of our locations to protect our employees. Position Overview: The General Mills Milwaukee Plant manufactures and distributes snacks for the North American Retail and C&F Business segments. The site’s product portfolio includes Chex Mix, Muddy Buddies, Bugles, and Gardetto’s. Located 6 miles south of downtown Milwaukee, the site was built in 1968 and owned by the Gardetto family until it was acquired by General Mills in 1999. Today, the plant employs over 200 employees and is working on our Zero Loss Culture journey. Our manufacturing facilities are committed to achieving zero human and food safety incidents, and it is every employee’s responsibility to fully support this vision. The General Mills-Milwaukee plant operates on a 12-2 schedule which means we run for 12 days in a row and then have two days off and we also have a 2-2-3 schedule. We are looking to hire people for our 12 hour night crews (7pm-7am) that work on a 2-2-3 schedule. Training could be on 1st shift. The starting wage for our Distribution Clerk 3/Fork-Truck Driver is $21.48 per hour. All employees begin their career with General Mills with 15 days of vacation, which is made available for you to use after your first 90-day probationary period. Additional time-off benefits are available to all employees, as well. Main Responsibilities: Unload raw material components from a trailer into the ASRS and maintain the HAACP inspection procedure and documentation. Receive spice and properly mark the date of manufacture on each pallet, then store each pallet using FIFO (first in, first out). Inspect proper start-up, shutdown, and sampling procedures for receiving bulk oils. Ensure the completion of HAACP and GMP’s procedures and documentation. Responsible for executing oil spill procedures. Properly inspect outbound trailers using HAACP inspection procedure and documentation. Followed by loading finished cubes to a product to truck order. Knowledgeable in the completion of the outbound order and the staging of finished cubes into the proper bay roll. Deliver materials to the Operations as needed to support production Off load finished stretched wrapped cubes from the end of the conveying system and staging on the floor or on top of the same SKU cube (double stack). Able to change ribbon, label stock and stretch film when necessary. Verify, unload, stage, and store inbound packaging materials consisting of corrugated, film pouch and other miscellaneous items into their proper locations. Properly stage-packaging materials for the production floor according to the daily production schedule. Capable of troubleshooting issues associated with the ASRS, labelers, Lantech stretch wrapper, conveying systems and Red Prairie equipment. Ensure the delivery of UPS packages to the proper personnel. Also, capable of setting up UPS outbound shipments. Load recycled totes, wooden pallets, and bailed scrap plastic or corrugated into the predetermined supplier’s trailers. Repackage damaged goods, as directed by the Distribution lead person or team leader. Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Responsible for the cleaning of forklifts, conveying and stretch wrapping systems, racking and warehouse floor and dock area. Proficient in the operation of a floor scrubber. Maintain forklift Certification in current status with good safety record and successful completion of all initial and re-certification testing. Assure that all vehicles are inspected on a daily basis. Assist in cycle counting and physical inventory as requested by inventory analysis. Receive and issue packaging materials utilizing Red Prairie system. EQUIPMENT USED: ASRS storage system, Red Prairie, computer, scanning equipment, highlift, regular forklift, push/pull forklifts, clamp forklifts, knives, calculators, copier, step ladders, pens, clipboards, phones, electric and manual pallet jacks and Lantech stretch wrapper, conveying systems (Knafman), oil cart and accessories, rags, broom, mop, bucket, Tennant floor scrubbers. Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship High school diploma or GED 1-2 years of experience in material handling The position requires the ability to read WMS label, packaging slips, bill of laden, and documents such as work and safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate problems and directions clearly to lead co-workers. Basic ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to solve diverse procedural problems within well-defined standards by selecting from learned responses. Must be able to lift 50 lbs as required by the position Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery COMPANY OVERVIEW We exist to make food the world loves.
