Job Description Summary
The Senior Project Portfolio Manager is responsible for leading and consolidating a portfolio of projects for strategic customers in the United States, with a particular focus on key market segments such as Data Centers. This role provides portfolio-level leadership across projects executed by multiple factories and product lines within the Power Transmission business line.
Reporting to the Power Transmission Projects Management and Operations Excellence Leader, this role is accountable for ensuring strong execution governance, consistent customer engagement, and delivery of financial and operational objectives across the portfolio. The Senior Project Portfolio Manager works closely with Project Managers, factory teams, operations teams, commercial teams, and functional stakeholders to drive execution excellence and customer satisfaction.
Job Description Key Responsibilities Portfolio Management and Customer Leadership
- Lead and consolidate a portfolio of projects for strategic customers and targeted market segments in the United States.
- Serve as the primary portfolio-level interface with internal leadership, project teams, and end customers.
- Provide management with clear visibility on portfolio status, key milestones, risks, opportunities, and performance indicators.
- Ensure alignment and consistency in execution strategy, governance, and customer communication across all projects within the portfolio.
- Support the development of strong customer relationships and high levels of customer satisfaction.
Financial and Business Performance
- Drive achievement of portfolio objectives related to sales, margin, and cash performance.
- Monitor and support delivery of key financial metrics, including revenue recognition, billing, cash collection, past dues, retentions, and margin deviation management.
- Ensure financial and commercial decisions are escalated and approved in accordance with the applicable Delegation of Authority (DOA).
- Partner with project teams to identify and resolve issues affecting financial or operational performance.
Risk and Opportunity Management
- Ensure regular and structured assessment of risks and opportunities across the project portfolio.
- Drive the definition, implementation, and follow-up of mitigation and action plans to address identified risks and maximize opportunities.
- Promote proactive management of operational, contractual, financial, and execution risks.
- Escalate significant risks and coordinate cross-functional support where required.
Project Management Leadership
- Provide coaching and guidance to regional and factory Project Managers through a dotted-line leadership model, helping to strengthen project management capability across the organization.
- Ensure adherence to project management processes, tools, and governance standards.
- Lead or support key project management transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Initiate and oversee high-risk project reviews when needed, including transfer meetings and lessons learned / return-on-experience reviews with ITO and other stakeholders.
- Track implementation of action plans resulting from project reviews, with a strong focus on anticipation, risk mitigation, and cash performance.
- Support Project Managers in negotiations with customers, contractors, and partners for complex or high-risk projects.
- Intervene directly in critical project situations when necessary, leading recovery actions and engaging key stakeholders.
- Ensure strong end-to-end project lifecycle management, from project kick-off through closure, including billing, cash collection, and bond management.
Contract Management
- Ensure consistent application of contract management processes across the region, in coordination with central and legal teams.
- Support Project Managers in the preparation and negotiation of major variation orders, claims, and other contractual matters.
- Engage Legal and Contract Management teams as needed for guidance, risk mitigation, and dispute resolution.
Qualifications Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in Project Management, including large, complex projects and/or project portfolio management in domestic and/or international environments.
- Proven experience working in a matrix organization with cross-functional and multi-site teams.
- Experience in customer-facing roles and in coordinating project execution across multiple factories, sites, or business units is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of the energy market and customer landscape is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong project and portfolio management capabilities.
- Solid financial acumen, with experience managing margin, cash flow, billing, and risk.
- Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills in a matrix environment.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage complexity, prioritize effectively, and drive execution across multiple interfaces.
- Strong customer focus and problem-solving orientation.
- Fluent in English.
- PMP certification is a plus.
- Note:
