Overview We are seeking a full-time Senior Quality Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for multiple NPI projects and continuous improvement activities, meetings and teams.
Essential Functions Serves in a technical leadership capacity for multiple products in development/NPI projects and conducts APQP activities as needed Organizes and leads continuous improvement activities, meetings, and teams Monitors performance and conducts audits (supplier, product and/or processes) Ensures timely resolution of supplier failures, corrective and preventive actions Creates, updates and maintain quality system documentation Represents the quality department in ECO approval process and serves as a member of the Material Review Board and/or Supplier Review Board Responsible for continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system Conducts conformity inspections to support the ODA and customers Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Quality Engineers (1 & 2) Contributes to advanced technical research on new processes and technologies Independently determines general approach and specific solutions to technical problems and works proactively and effectively with minimal supervision Demonstrates good judgment in setting schedules/risk taking Offers many suggestions to improves processes and authors new procedures as appropriate Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem-solving techniques Exemplifies Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin’s image and culture Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear), safety shoes and/or eyeglasses to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards Conducts designed experiments as needed MIRAMAR SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: Leads the supplier quality management activities to ensure that all purchased finished goods, parts and subassemblies are in compliance with manufacturing specifications Works with global sourcing teams to support the selection and approval process of suppliers Supports Engineering, Process Engineering, Purchasing and Quality to maintain supplier management programs and controls in place for a best-in-class supply base Serves as the point of contact to manage supplier related quality issues making sure corrective actions are carried out at the supplier Monitors suppliers performance and develops continuous improvement activities to address poor performance Conducts regular reviews with key stakeholders to provide visibility about supplier performance and to address potential risks Coordinates the efforts to establish or improve supplier management programs to improve the overall supply base working closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Process Engineering and Quality Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrates familiarity with detailed warehouse, manufacturing or service processes Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others Desired Qualifications Proficient knowledge of IATF 16949, VDA/MLA, AS 9100, VDA 6.3/6.5, Supplier/Sub-supplier Quality, AIG Layered Audits, APQP/PPAP/MSA, Customer Specific Requirements, CQE/CQM, etc.
