Ford Motor Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Development Engineer to join our dynamic Driveline Systems team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and release of half shafts across diverse portfolio of vehicles. You will play a critical role in ensuring our components meet stringent performance, durability, efficiency, and quality standards, contributing directly to the driving experience our customers expect from Ford.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- 2+ years of automotive experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Demonstrated presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years experience in halfshaft or driveline system development.
- Familiarity with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) processes.

This position is a salary grades 5 to 8. Salaries range from $63,480 - 162,120.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and release half shafts from concept to production, ensuring alignment with program attribute requirements and timing.
- Translate vehicle-level driveline system requirements into detailed half shaft targets, specifications, and engineering drawings.
- Familiar with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Solid Works) to create and refine detailed designs.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive validation and verification testing, including DVP&R activities, to ensure product robustness and performance.
- Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including Driveline Systems, Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and external suppliers.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve complex engineering issues related to half shaft design, manufacturing, and field performance.
- Manage supplier relationships, including technical reviews, component sourcing, and evaluation to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets, communicating progress and potential risks to stakeholders.
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, test reports, and engineering release documents.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance halfshaft performance, reduce cost, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements in driveline technology, and regulatory requirements to foster innovation and ensure compliance.
