We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

The Torque Distribution Technical Expert, as a Global SME, is required to lead electric propulsion torque path strategy for torque distribution, traction control, and AWD attributes including coordination with braking systems. This role bridges the gap between hardware capability and software execution. You will lead the coordination between electric propulsion torque distribution and braking systems to ensure seamless vehicle behavior across all surfaces—from high-mu pavement to snow, ice, and even rugged off-road environments.

Ability and Willingness to travel – up to 20% domestic/international travel required

Maximizing vehicle-level performance requires precise and coordinated control of torque from multiple actuators to balance vehicle stability, traction (on and off road, high and low mu surfaces), responsiveness, and energy efficiency, within thermal constraints.

This position provides centralized technical ownership to ensure a consistent approach across platforms/ application, enables cross-functional alignment, and ensures robust execution of torque path and brake coordination strategies.

You'll have...

BS or higher; Engineering, or Computer Science

10 years’ experience in Torque Path/ Distribution systems engineering, controls, and/or calibration and 6 years or higher work experience in electrified powertrain calibration and systems engineering

Ability and Willingness to travel – up to 20% domestic/international travel required

Recognized expert within Powertrain calibration on propulsive systems attributes. Strong ties with R&A and Brakes community a benefit.

Mentor and train the next generation of calibration and controls engineers (in fundamentals of propulsive attributes and calibration, including Low Mu, Off Road and efficiency, propulsive controls, calibration, and taking of appropriate risk).

Demonstrated method development and documentation; requirements, patent submission or equiv. publications

Strong understanding of the EV customer and quality metrics available to develop leading EV propulsive attributes

Demonstrated software and system capabilities, such as: Experience with embedded controls systems such as chassis systems, VCM, or similar dynamic functions, Vehicle Network Protocols such as CAN, LIN & Automotive Ethernet. Ability to write scripts for testing and data analysis using scripting languages (Python). Additional experience in software fundamentals including software design and maintainability, software development tools like Bazel, Github, Jira, JAMA, etc is desired

Experience and working knowledge of systems development, vehicle architecture, driveline technologies, battery technologies, software/hardware tool development, motor technologies /calibration, OBD calibration, functional safety, network, and diagnostics process.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder…or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups

Evaluating proposed Hardware and Software solutions to optimize the balance of traction, efficiency, and thermal attributes though system integration. Then work to get the most for the customer from the hardware available on the program through calibration and or controls recommendation.

Lead Technical Design Reviews of the Torque Path/ Distribution system and related sub systems ( Controls and Calibrations)

Benchmark EV competitor propulsive solutions to ensure that the Ford Torque Path/ Distribution controls are the industry leading EV control system.

Review the delivery and lead the development of proposed Sign off EV Torque Path and attributes before Management review/sign off of these features on Electrified propulsion programs.

Be the Go-To Resource for Problem Solving in EV Torque Path/ Distribution, Leading resolution through Calibration and /or recommending controls changes during Development, Product Launch, Recall investigations, and/or Quality/ Field issues.

Coach, Mentor and Train Engineers in the system and optimization of the EV Torture Path/ Distribution. Include in the use of alternative testing resources (HIL, SIL, Dyno facilities) and analytical tools in your work to aid in efficient and robust development of controls and calibration.
