In this role, you create inspiring, high‑quality exterior designs in 2D and 3D that shape the future of our vehicles. You bring design concepts to life, turn them into precise 3D surfaces, and work closely with engineering to ensure feasibility. You contribute to the brand’s design DNA, explore new technologies, prepare impactful presentations, and benchmark competitors to keep our designs ahead of the industry.

Education and Professional Experience

  • The role requires a completed university degree (University of Applied Sciences, Technical University, or University) in Design / Automotive Design or a comparable qualification, as well as several years of professional experience

  • Proven experience in developing exterior design surfaces (both digitally in 3D and physically in clay).

The Studio Life

This role is based in the heart of our creative hub in Cologne. We value the "spark" of in-person collaboration, which is why we typically work from the studio four days a week. We offer flexibility to align with project needs, but the studio is where our CMF vision truly comes to life.

• Creation and development of highly emotional, high-quality, and industry-leading exterior design proposals in 2D and 3D. Building virtual (3D) models of selected designs. Producing dimensionally accurate design concepts in compliance with program requirements, engineering criteria, and cost targets.

• Contributing to the development of design DNA, strategies, vision models, and competitive proposals for production design.

• Development of the full range of design themes and their translation into 3D surfaces for exterior design projects.

• Implementation of exterior designs for vehicle programs while adhering to product definitions, timing, and cost objectives.

• Effective and proficient use of both digital and analogue tools to efficiently create 2D and 3D exterior design proposals within the studio. Developing manufacturability of assigned components in close collaboration with Studio Engineering, other Ford engineering departments, and suppliers.

• Preparation of suitable physical and digital presentations for senior management reviews.

• Ability to apply new technologies to deliver best-in-class exterior designs.

• Close collaboration with the LL6 Manager and the Chief Designer to ensure on-time delivery of all required outputs at the expected quality level and within project scope.

• Conducting benchmarking studies of competitor products to optimize new products with regard to design concept and form language.
