The Architecture Research Intern supports the Digital Factory architecture function by researching, analyzing, and prototyping technology and architecture practices that inform platform strategy, solution design, and engineering standards.

This role sits between architecture and engineering. It is not a delivery role and not a junior architect position. The focus is on research, synthesis, experimentation, and knowledge transfer to support informed architectural decision‑making in an enterprise and regulated environment.

Responsibilities:

Architecture & Technology Research

• Research software architecture patterns, platform approaches, and industry best practices (e.g. API design, frontend architecture, data platforms, cloud patterns).

• Analyze trade‑offs between technologies, frameworks, and architectural approaches.

• Track emerging trends relevant to enterprise digital platforms.

Prototyping & Experimentation

• Build small proof‑of‑concepts or reference implementations to validate architectural ideas.

• Experiment with tools, frameworks, or platforms to assess suitability for enterprise use.

• Support benchmarking and comparison of architectural options.

Architecture Documentation & Standards

• Contribute to architecture artifacts such as:

• Reference architectures

• Architecture principles and guidelines

• Decision records (ADRs)

• Help document existing platforms, systems, or solution patterns.

• Ensure clarity, structure, and reusability of architecture documentation.

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

• Work closely with Architects, Engineers, and Product teams.

• Prepare concise presentations or summaries for architecture forums and stakeholders.

• Contribute to internal knowledge bases and communities of practice.

Learning Outcomes

• Exposure to enterprise‑scale architecture decision‑making

• Understanding of how architecture bridges strategy and delivery

• Hands‑on experience with modern platforms, tooling, and patterns

• Mentorship from experienced architects and senior engineers

Qualifications:

Required

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:

• Computer Science

• Software Engineering

• Information Systems

• or a related technical field

• Strong analytical and research skills.

• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals.

• Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, structured outputs.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

• Familiarity with software architecture concepts and patterns.

• Exposure to cloud platforms, APIs, or data systems.

• Experience with lightweight prototyping or scripting.

• Interest in enterprise architecture, platform engineering, or technical strategy.
