The Senior Software Engineering Manager is a senior-level leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple software development teams, driving departmental strategy, and ensuring the alignment of software projects with organizational goals. They play a pivotal role in setting departmental goals and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and lead multiple software engineering teams, setting clear objectives and priorities that align with departmental and organizational goals.
- Directs the system development lifecycle including the design, coding, testing, documentation, installation, maintenance, and support of proprietary and/or purchased software systems/applications.
- Responsible for systems performance and quality assurance testing policies and procedures.
- Ensures testing and documentation satisfies customer expectations.
- Make decisions regarding application enhancements as necessary.
- Define and execute departmental strategies, including resource allocation, budgeting, and technology adoption.
- Collaborate with other department heads and executives to ensure that software initiatives align with the overall company strategy.
- Foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the software engineering department.
- Mentor and coach software managers and leaders within the organization, providing guidance and growth opportunities.
- Oversee complex software projects, monitor progress, and address challenges to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement within the department.
- Participate in hiring and onboarding, setting and evaluating performance goals to identify, attract, and retain top talent.
- Conduct performance reviews, career development planning, and succession planning.
- Developing risk mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of newer technologies like cloud, mobile, Analytics, any certification will be advantageous.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of professional experience and/or training required
- 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years’ experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, API’s and distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of Microservices architecture, Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, API design and distributed systems, Observability and monitoring solutions.
- Proven ability to lead technical discussions and architecture reviews.
- Proven record of accomplishment of managing and leading software teams.
- Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
