Empower is expanding its global Accounting organization and building a strong finance presence in Bangalore, India. This Senior Accountant role is part of the Fee Revenue Team and plays a key role in supporting U.S.-based operations and financial reporting. Under general direction, you will prepare accounting entries in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), support regulatory reporting for non-life subsidiaries, and contribute to accurate and timely financial close processes. This position offers meaningful exposure to U.S. financial reporting, cross-functional collaboration, and global accounting operations. The role works closely with business and finance partners across multiple U.S. time zones (EST through MST) and is integral to ensuring high-quality, timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and record fee income journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
- Analyze financial data to identify anomalies, variances, and potential errors; proactively resolve issues.
- Prepare and review general ledger account reconciliations.
- Support month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
- Assist with regulatory reporting filings for subsidiary entities.
- Perform analytical reviews of non-life subsidiaries’ income statements to ensure completeness and accuracy of quarterly financial results.
- Partner with line-of-business leaders to ensure operational changes are appropriately reflected in financial reporting.
- Support implementation and operationalization of technical accounting policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with U.S.-based stakeholders across time zones, participating in meetings during overlapping business hours as needed.
- Contribute to documentation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives as part of the growing India accounting team.
- May mentor or support the development of junior team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience & Skills
- 4 years of relevant accounting or business analysis experience.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP; exposure to IFRS preferred.
- Experience in public accounting preferred.
- Chartered Accountant (CA) designation or progress toward CA preferred.
- CPA (U.S.) license or progress toward CPA is a plus.
- Experience supporting U.S.-based stakeholders or working in a multinational organization preferred.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a deadline-driven, structured environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours when necessary to ensure collaboration across U.S. time zones during close and reporting cycles.
