Tech Lead Mechanical Design
About the role
Position Summary:
The Technical Lead – Mechanical Product Design is a key contributor and decision-maker responsible for mechanical subsystem ownership of Ultrasonic Flow Meter (USM) products. This role leads end-to-end mechanical design and development, ensuring product performance, safety, regulatory compliance, manufacturability, and long-term reliability. Working closely with global engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and program teams, the role combines hands-on technical expertise with collaborative leadership to deliver high-quality flow measurement solutions.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Lead the complete mechanical design lifecycle of Ultrasonic Flow Meter products, from concept development through product release and sustaining activities.
- Act as the mechanical design authority, independently leading and closing design reviews while ensuring alignment with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Translate technical, functional, and regulatory requirements into robust and manufacturable mechanical designs using sound engineering judgment.
- Ensure compliance with relevant global standards and certifications, including ASME, PED, ATEX, IECEx, UL, CSA, DNV, MID, NEMA, NMi, and INMETRO.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to mechanical engineers, supporting design, development, testing, and issue resolution activities.
- Partner with program managers and cross-functional teams to plan, estimate, and execute engineering work in line with project timelines.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams on castings, forgings, welding, machining, inspection, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Support new product development, cost reduction, quality improvement, sustaining engineering, and engineered-to-order activities.
- Review, approve, and release designs, drawings, calculations, and part numbers using Emerson quality systems, PLM/PDM tools, and change management processes.
Who You Are:
You take ownership of complex technical challenges and consistently follow through on commitments with confidence and accountability. You apply systems thinking to understand how design decisions impact product performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability. You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across global and cross-functional teams, building trust through technical credibility and openness. You are comfortable making informed decisions in dynamic environments and adapt your approach to deliver the best outcomes.
For This Role, You Will Need:
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, development, and testing of industrial or instrumentation products.
- Working knowledge of pressure-containing components, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and PLM tools such as Siemens NX, Solid Works, and Teamcenter.
- Experience applying GD&T, DFMEA, DFMA, and structured product development processes.
- Ability to perform and review engineering calculations using tools such as Mathcad.
- Experience working with global teams and external suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 12–15 years of experience in flow measurement, industrial instrumentation, or Oil & Gas products
- Experience in flow measurement, ultrasonic flow meters, industrial instrumentation, or energy-related products.
- Familiarity with acoustic path principles and transducer-related mechanical design considerations.
- Exposure to regulatory certifications and compliance activities for global markets.
- Experience supporting both new product introduction and sustaining engineering activities.
