About the role

We are seeking a mid‑level Systems Software Engineer who operates comfortably across software, hardware, and system integration boundaries. This role focuses on developing validation‑centric systems that combine a broad range of NI hardware (instrumentation, control, timing, data acquisition, and integration technologies) with scalable software architectures, automation frameworks, and robust build pipelines.
The ideal candidate enjoys solving ambiguous system problems, building production‑quality software, and owning solutions end‑to‑end—from initial concept through sustained customer use.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Design, develop, and maintain systems‑level software that integrates NI software platforms with a diverse range of NI hardware technologies (instrumentation, control, timing & synchronization, data acquisition, and custom system integrations).
  • Architect and implement semiconductor validation systems, including:
  • Hardware abstraction and configuration
  • Test orchestration and sequencing
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting workflows
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (applications engineering, sales, product R&D) and customers to translate validation requirements into scalable and maintainable system designs.
  • Develop and maintain software infrastructure, including:
  • Build and release pipelines (CI/CD)
  • Automated testing and system validation frameworks
  • Versioning, dependency, and configuration management
  • Diagnose and resolve complex cross‑domain issues involving software, firmware, instrumentation, signal integrity, and device interactions.
  • Ensure systems meet expectations for reliability, performance, extensibility, and long‑term maintainability in customer validation environments.
  • Participate in design reviews, architecture discussions, and technical documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continual improvement of team software practices.
  • Support customer deployments and escalations as needed in collaboration with field and applications teams.

Who You Are:

You introduce new ways of looking at problems. You partner with others to get work done. You are confident under pressure.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5–8 years of professional experience developing software‑intensive engineering systems.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more of the following:
  • LabVIEW
  • Python
  • C#
  • Demonstrated experience working across the software–hardware interface, including integration with measurement, control, or automation hardware.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automated tests, and release processes.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and version control workflows (e.g., Git).
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to decompose ambiguous, system‑level requirements.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Only U.S. Persons (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined by 22 CFR §120) may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

  • Experience with semiconductor validation workflows, characterization, or lab‑based system bring‑up.
  • Familiarity with NI platforms and technologies such as:
  • PXI and non‑PXI systems
  • DAQ, RF, digital, timing & synchronization
  • Distributed or integrated test systems
  • Experience with test sequencing or orchestration frameworks (e.g., NI Test Stand or equivalent concepts).
  • Knowledge of high‑volume data collection, analysis pipelines, and validation reporting.
  • Experience packaging, deploying, and supporting customer‑facing engineering systems.
  • Prior involvement in customer engagements or solution delivery roles.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
