Job Summary:

The Director of Operations is an executive leadership role responsible for the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of daily operations at the manufacturing site. This position oversees Production, Manufacturing Engineering (focusing on localization/technology transfer and process sustaining/automation), and Warehouse functions including developing strategic, long-term operational goals, managing budgets, and overseeing staff to ensure production meets customer demand on time, within budget, and at high quality. The Director of Operations sets priorities and collaborates closely with departmental managers, and other executives to implement company directives. This role encompasses financial, logistical, management, and analytical responsibilities to drive overall business success and build a positive work environment in Pudong & Songjiang sites. In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Collaborate with company leaders to create and execute operational strategies that directly support broader company objectives and growth priorities.
  • Support growth directives by ensuring manufacturing capabilities align with new product introductions or shifts in customer demand.
  1. Production Management
  • Lead all manufacturing activities to achieve production schedules, output targets, and on-time delivery (OTD) goals.
  • Drive a culture of safety, ensuring a zero-accident workplace through strict adherence to EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) standards.
  • Implement and oversee Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, and Kaizen methodologies to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), throughput, and cycle time, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage the production workforce, including shift supervisors and team leads, focusing on engagement, training, and performance management.
  • Communicate regularly with departmental heads to ensure production activities support overall company objectives and address any cross-functional bottlenecks.
  1. Manufacturing Engineering (Localization and Sustaining)
  • Localization (Technology Transfer): Lead end-to-end technical efforts to transfer products manufactured in other countries to domestic production facilities. This includes managing the replication of tooling, fixtures, and testing methods, as well as validating that transferred processes meet all engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Sustaining (Process Improvement & Automation): Oversee the manufacturing engineering team responsible for the ongoing support and continuous enhancement of existing product lines. Drive initiatives to improve manufacturing processes through the introduction of automation, semi-automation, and advanced manufacturing technologies to increase efficiency, consistency, and capacity.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to investigate non-conformances and implement permanent corrective actions related to process or design.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes are documented, standardized, and continuously improved for safety, quality, and reliability.

Warehouse and Inventory Management:

  • Oversee all warehouse operations, including receiving, put-away, inventory management, kitting, and finished goods shipping.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy through robust cycle counting programs and adherence to FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles.
  • Optimize warehouse layout and material flow to maximize storage capacity and minimize handling costs..

Financial Management and Performance Analysis:

  • Monitor operational costs and conduct regular budget reviews to control expenses and maximize profitability.
  • Analyze operational reports and performance data to evaluate productivity, efficiency, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and execute the annual operational plan, including capital budgeting (Cap Ex) and headcount planning.
  • Prepare regular reports on operational performance for senior management, highlighting achievements and recommending corrective actions.

Culture and People Management:

  • Implement initiatives to build a positive, engaging, and high-performance work environment.
  • Champion a culture of Continuous Improvement (CI) and safety across all functional areas.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the operations leadership team (Production Managers, Manufacturing Engineering Managers, Warehouse Supervisors), focusing on engagement, training, and performance management.

For This Role, You Will Need:

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. An MBA or Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing multiple functions (Production, Engineering, and Warehouse).

Technical Skills:

  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly operations, and production planning.
  • Proven track record in localization projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement tools. (Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus).
  • Proficiency in data analysis, KPI-driven management, and budget management.

Leadership and Core Competencies

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align operational goals with overall business strategy.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting.
  • Change Management: Experience leading organizational change and driving cultural transformation.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work cross-functionally with HR, Quality, and other departments.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Team Building: Proven ability to develop, mentor, and retain top talent.

Working Conditions

  • This role is based on-site at the manufacturing facility.
  • May require occasional travel to supplier locations or other company sites.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including the plant floor and warehouse areas.
