Lead Maintenance Mechanic

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) molecules located in Lebanon, IN. This facility is Lilly’s largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the startup team for a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the processes and facility to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.
Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:
The Lead Maintenance Mechanic is a multicraft maintenance position that requires expertise in various mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines. The Lead Mechanic will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all manufacturing equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime supporting the process area and utilities within the LP1 API manufacturing facility. This role involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure the facility operates efficiently and complies with all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety: Conduct daily activities with a safety-first mindset. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance activities.
- Compliance: Complete all work in a timely manner and in accordance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) procedures.
- Documentation: Complete all documentation associated with daily maintenance activities, including work order completion and post maintenance documentation.
- Communication: Responsible for passing off vital information to all appropriate parties related to critical equipment issues both through oral and written communication methods.
- Lead a team of mechanics and technicians in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues to ensure continuous operation of production lines.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to maximize equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify and resolve equipment-related issues.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment history, and spare parts inventory.
- Provide training and guidance to team members to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and reduce maintenance costs.
- Champion for support of planning and scheduling including feedback to planners for continuous improvement
- Collaboration with reliability team on equipment failures
- Willingness to volunteer and support committees/teams outside of primary role (safety, continuous improvement…etc)
- Common Equipment the mechanic will be responsible for:
- Process pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement, and turbine pumps) including troubleshooting, dismantling and reassembly.
- Process columns, including troubleshooting, disassembly, and reassembly
- Equipment unique to the processes (centrifuges, homogenizers, vapor separators, agitators, gearboxes, process supply and exhaust fans etc.), including troubleshooting, dismantling and reassembly.
Basic Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a multicraft maintenance role within a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment.
- Proficient use of CMMS (Maximo) and other Work Order systems.
- Proficient use of electronic devices, smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional Preferences:
- Associate’s degree or technical degree or certification in a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a multicraft maintenance role within a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment.

Additional Information:
- This role is for LP1 in Lebanon, IN.
- Tasks require entering manufacturing areas which require wearing appropriate PPE.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$33.89 - $49.71
Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
