Job Description:

Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team at e Bay is responsible for all the data platform, infrastructure and management of end-to-end data lifecycle for all e Bay data from e Bay products to analytics use cases. We are seeking a Software Engineer passionate about data-driven technologies and architectures.

About the Role:

We are looking for MTS 2 Software Engineers to join the Golden Data Sets (GDS) Platform team within e Bay's Core Data Platform organization.

The problem we're solving is significant: e Bay currently manages over ten thousands of loosely defined datasets with fragmented pipeline implementations, resulting in widespread data duplication, redundant compute, and runaway operational costs. The GDS Platform addresses this by building a fully declarative data platform — one that accepts dataset specifications, maintains a comprehensive view of the total data flow graph, and automatically produces optimized pipelines to systematically eliminate these inefficiencies at scale.

As an engineer on this team, you will contribute to the systems that power this platform — from computation graph management to pipeline optimization and dataset lifecycle. Your work will directly reduce operational waste across e Bay's data infrastructure.

Note:

This is a Data Platform Engineering role. Familiarity with Spark, Flink, and the Hadoop ecosystem is useful context, but your primary responsibility is building the platform itself — not authoring pipelines.

What you’ll do and learn

• Own and deliver major components of e Bay’s Data Platforms — from design through production rollout.

• Design and evolve distributed systems powering ingestion, streaming, lakehouse/warehouse, catalog, and governance.

• Contribute to long-term architecture through design reviews and authoring architecture design documents, ensuring scalability and resilience.

• Build systems that balance latency, correctness, and cost while ensuring security and compliance.

• Drive operational excellence for services you own, including observability and incident response.

• Collaborate across product, infra, and analytics teams to align execution with business needs.

• Learn and grow in areas like governance, orchestration, and privacy engineering.

• Experience designing large-scale distributed systems (compute, storage, APIs, streaming).

• Ability to independently deliver complex projects from requirements to production.

• Systems thinker who anticipates bottlenecks, schema evolution, and reliability issues.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in distributed systems or data platforms.

• Proven ability to design and deliver critical systems with impact.

• Proficiency in Java/Python, CI/CD, and containerized environments.

• Hands-on expertise in tools like Kafka/Flink, Spark, Delta/Iceberg, Kubernetes, NoSQL/columnar stores.

• Experience in streaming and batch data platforms.

• Strong foundation in algorithms and distributed design.

• BS/MS in CS or equivalent experience.
