About the team and the role

The Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team designs, builds, and operates the data infrastructure that powers all of e Bay’s analytics, AI, and platform experiences. We manage the complete data lifecycle — from ingestion to real-time insights — supporting thousands of internal users and systems globally.

As a Senior MTS Software Engineer, you’ll shape the architectural vision and technical strategy for e Bay’s Core Data Platform, which underpins real-time, batch, and AI workloads across one of the world’s largest e-commerce ecosystems. You’ll collaborate closely with product, infrastructure, and AI/ML teams to design scalable, intelligent, and cost-efficient data systems that empower developers and analysts alike.

What you will accomplish

• Lead the architecture and technical direction for e Bay’s next-generation Core Data Platform.

• Design and develop distributed backend systems for data processing at massive scale.

• Optimize real-time and batch data services for performance, availability, and cost efficiency.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end data solutions that enable AI, search, and marketplace insights.

• Champion engineering excellence through automation, observability, and reliable service design.

• Mentor engineers and help foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.

What you will bring

• 8 years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering, ideally within data platform or infrastructure domains.

• Proficiency in Java, Scala, or Go, with strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and system design.

• Expertise in distributed data systems such as Kafka, Spark, Flink, or HDFS.

• Experience designing and operating large-scale services on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or private cloud).

• Understanding of data governance, cataloging, and orchestration frameworks.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical strategy across diverse teams.

Location and work model

This role follows e Bay’s hybrid work model, requiring three days per week onsite in the Dublin office (unless otherwise stated). Occasional travel may be required for global collaboration and team summits.
