About the Role
Every day, millions of users sell and ship their wares using e Bay. Our team supports this diverse community by building shipping products around the globe, helping individual sellers and small businesses to meet the growing expectations of online buyers. We are an agile team who adapt quickly and stay curious.
You will be part of a team responsible for building out the newest e Bay experience -- live shopping platform: e Bay Live. Live shopping naturally fits into the e Bay ethos -- focused largely on unique items, collectibles and fashion, and enabling direct communication between buyers and sellers. This is a relatively new trend in the US and Europe, growing quickly, and is already broadly established in APAC.
We are looking to hire a passionate, collaborative and motivated Backend Software Engineer, who will help us develop and evolve e Bay Live to be a market leader in live shopping and become a key part of the global e Bay platform. What You'll Do and Learn
- Independently lead complex technical initiatives within and beyond your team
- Lead engineering support, release, and on-call responsibilities for an "always-on" 24/7 site
- Drive technical direction and roadmap, leads across domain teams and guides others towards the right technical decisions
- Author ADRs (Architecture Decision Records) that serve as blueprint or a proposed solution for a given technical problem and influence overall tech strategy
- Responsible for one or more large functional areas possessing in-depth knowledge and expertise
- Demonstrate strong systems mindset, go beyond immediate needs, proactively addressing performance, security, and future-proofing solutions
- Take ownership of complex projects, driving them from conception to successful implementation
- Change agency to set high bar and uplevel across teams on culture, process and engineering practices
- Empower teams through effective collaboration, knowledge sharing, and tool building
- Identify areas in the company platforms likely to change and integrate flexibility in the design for these areas improving engineering velocity
- Develop long term technology vision to continually modernize and keep systems relevant in constantly changing environments

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in EE, CS or other related field
- 10+ years of experience in building large scale, distributed web platforms/APIs with 5+ years as an architect/technical lead responsible for the end to end product scope across multiple domains
- Experience in creating and driving technical strategy and roadmap across multiple domains
- Balanced trade-offs to ship scalable solutions supporting long-term goals
- Successfully forge alignments with key stakeholders on significant architecture decisions and technical direction for ambiguous problem areas through Architectural Decision Records (ADR)
- Developed and drove adoption of technical practices that improved team velocity to deliver high-quality code across the organization
- Solid knowledge in end to end system design involving GraphQL/Rest APIs, Messaging Systems, RDBMS/NOSQL, Containers, Infrastructure layer, with deep knowledge in several key components
- Experience in GraphQL is preferable
- Experiences in leading complex technical initiatives across teams independently from inception to successful delivery
