Our mission at Duolingo is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. It’s a big mission, and even though we've made a lot of headway, we still have work to do — and that’s where you come in!

Duolingo’s designers care about creating high-quality experiences that look and feel fun. From animators to writers, product designers to researchers, Design brings purpose, feeling, and delight to every interaction with our brand, inside the app and out. As a designer, you’ll join a culture of creativity and craft, where we have a high bar for excellence and an endless curiosity about how to bring more unexpected quirk and fun to the pursuit of learning.

Join us in our mission to develop education for our half a billion (and growing!) learners around the world.

About the role

This role is a key part of the Design team—Duolingo’s key creative partner across nearly every project. From our mobile apps and website to our brand voice, email newsletters, and community events, the Design team helps shape the full user experience. At Duolingo, we take pride in crafting experiences that are both user-friendly and fun—and we sweat the details to get them just right.

You will...

  • Work on the user experience across features within the Duolingo language app

  • Play a leadership role on the product design team

  • Work collaboratively with designers and artists to build upon and expand the Duolingo design language

  • Partner with engineers and product managers to define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for our products

  • Sometimes work on very broadly defined, loose concepts, and sometimes on narrowly defined, tactical features

  • Work in a highly enthusiastic fashion with the design and product teams

  • Consider all parts when crafting the experience: from copy to animation to business impact

  • Use a mix of internal and third-party AI tools at every step of your creative process

You have...

  • An online portfolio with mobile app or web design samples

  • Design experience in a consumer application, product, or software role

  • A desire to strive for excellence in your work until all details are attended to

  • The ability to explain your work, process, and decisions, and seek feedback to help you produce your best work

  • Experience ideating, building, and prototyping with AI tools, like Chat

GPT and Cursor:

Exceptional candidates will have...

  • Experience with managing early-career designers and an interest in developing design talent

  • Have worked at a high-paced tech start-up

  • Illustration and/or animation skill-set

  • Experience participating in or leading user research sessions

  • Shipped AI-driven products
