This position is responsible for following approved procedures for the start-up, shutdown, normal operations, monitoring, servicing, and maintenance of all equipment and systems at the coal generating facility. Must be familiar with emergency procedures to follow during periods of abnormal operation. Accountable for knowing and adhering to all location safety procedures including red tagging and personal protective equipment. Performs maintenance of plant equipment, troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates equipment
Responsibilities:
-
Perform electrical maintenance activities on powerhouse equipment, such as motors, breakers, transformers, electrical relays, switchyards, contractors, etc.

Perform troubleshooting and repair on instrumentation and control systems.
-
Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair on systems and equipment.
-
Perform troubleshooting and repair on Ovation / WDPF control systems, and/or PLC's.
-
Perform calibration of equipment.
-
Perform some level of mechanical maintenance on powerhouse equipment, such as boilers, turbines, air compressors, fans, coal pulverizers, pumps, ash handling equipment, yard drainage system, etc.

Trained and knowledgeable in the safe use of hand tools, power tools and electrical maintenance equipment, (e.g. hammers, sockets, electrical meters, grounds, etc.).

Work safely and effectively in a team environment.
-
Serve as a member of station emergency response teams, (Fire Brigade, Confined Space, Rescue, Hazmat, and First Responder).
-
Adhere to all station safety and environmental programs and procedures.
-
Ability to operate station vehicles such as forklifts, tractors and trucks.
-
Utilize computers and/or tablets to perform basic functions such timesheet entry, complete computer-based training modules, read company email, closeout work orders in Maximo etc.
-
Check and monitor plant equipment and systems daily to ensure proper operation and detect problems as they occur. This includes checking oil levels, pressures, temperatures, flows, unusual noises, vibration, overheating, leaks, cleanliness, etc.

Execute equipment startups and shutdowns of all major and auxiliary equipment and systems in the plant following approved operating procedures

Able to line up systems for various modes of operation (e.g. startup, shutdown, low load, emergency, etc.)

Utilize necessary equipment to remove wastes from the plant (e.g. pyrites, bottom ash, fly ash, waste oil, water box debris, etc.)

Perform LOTO operations to secure and release equipment in accordance with procedure
-
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment/system problems
-
Inspect equipment and be able to identify problems
-
Maintain accurate logs and records associated with the operation of auxiliary equipment, operator rounds logs, checklists, etc.

This position is a multiskilled role that requires qualification within the IC&E job family as well as qualification in two secondary skillsets (Operations & Mechanical)
Basic Qualifications:

Specific Requirements:

Valid driver's license

Ability to wear all required safety equipment and work in confined spaces.

Ability to pass respiratory physical and wear all personal protective equipment.

Ability to undergo training and participate in specialty team training, including Fire Brigade, Confined Space, Rescue, Hazmat & First Responder.
-
Ability to attend various training classes and successfully complete an employee development and qualifications program (EDQP).
-
Successful completion of EEI's Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and/or Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS).
-
Ability to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF)
-
This position contains a weight restriction of 325 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Bachelor or 2-year technical degree.
-
4 years of demonstrated ICE related work experience.
-
Experience and/or training with Ovation / WDPF control systems, and/or PLC's.
-
Demonstrated experience and ability to monitor and troubleshoot equipment in fluid system operation (pumps, valves, boilers, etc.)
-
Demonstrated experience working with mechanical and electrical equipment.
-
Demonstrated skills, attitude and ability to work safely.
-
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work independently without the need of close supervision but can also function well in a team environment.
-
Demonstrated leadership skills and experiences.
-
Demonstrated basic computer skills utilizing windows applications, emails and work management software.
-
Demonstrated experience working with hand tools and standard technical shop test equipment

Previous power plant experience

Previous Operations experience
Working Conditions:
-
Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb ladders, work in extreme heat or cold, walk/work on grating surfaces at extreme heights.
-
Lift up to 50 pounds.
-
Ability to work at heights and from suspended work platforms.
-
Required to work in all areas of the power plant, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.
-
Ability to work overtime including weekend work and holidays.
-
Required to climb ladders and stairs at various heights, enter vessels or equipment with limited access, walk, stoop, lift, bend, crawl and/or squat.
-
May be exposed to high stress situations and required to be available for emergency response as needed.

- Posting is for a Person County ICE Tech. Although Stationed at Roxboro’s Facility, as need requires you can expect to be temporarily re-assigned to Mayo Station.
