About the Team
Door Dash Drive is our company's hyper-growth platform team serving restaurants, grocers and retailers across the United States, Canada and Australia. The logistics team is responsible for driving the strategy, profitability, and operations across each vertical. In this fast-growing, high-energy environment, you'll drive innovation while maintaining a strong focus on quality and efficiency.
About the Role Door Dash Drive seeks a Head of Transportation to lead fulfillment strategy and site operations for our expanding new verticals.
They will lead the strategy, architecture, and optimization of our end-to-end logistics network—shaping how goods move from origin to destination across Door Dash’s growing Commerce Platform. As we scale one of our fastest-growing verticals, you’ll play a critical role in designing a cost-efficient, reliable, and high-performing transportation infrastructure. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Logistics, this role may be based near a major logistics hub and includes 10–20% travel.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Own network performance – Design and optimize transportation operations across first-mile and middle-mile that balance cost, speed, and service-level targets.
- Influence cross-functional initiatives – Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Finance, and Fulfillment Operations to deploy transportation technologies (e.g., TMS, route optimization tools) and inform roadmap decisions. You’ll need to translate operational needs into product requirements that drive efficiency and visibility.
- Lead and scale network strategy – Identify capacity constraints, unlock efficiencies, and lead implementation of new lanes, consolidation strategies, or regional nodes.
- Drive continuous improvement – Use data to identify cost drivers, service bottlenecks, and opportunities for redesign. Lead pilot programs and process rollouts to enhance reliability and scalability.
- Own carrier and mode strategy – Select and manage carrier partners, develop modal strategies (air, ground, LTL, FTL, parcel), and optimize load planning to improve service and reduce transportation cost per order.
- Forecast and budget network impact – Align multi-year network strategies with business goals. Build models to project volume growth, simulate future-state flows, and prioritize investments that maximize network ROI.
We’re excited about you because…
- You’re a systems thinker – You see the full picture of how products, transportation, and operations connect—and design accordingly.
- You’re data-driven and execution-oriented – You ground your strategy in data, move quickly from analysis to action, and can lead execution across teams.
- You thrive in ambiguity – You’re energized by complexity and enjoy building new strategies and models in uncharted territory.
- You’ve led cross-functional programs – You’ve influenced diverse teams and delivered measurable results at scale.
- You have 8+ years of relevant experience – You’ve worked in logistics, transportation, operations strategy, supply chain consulting, or a fast-paced tech environment. Experience with SQL, Python, network modeling tools, or transportation systems is a strong plus.
- Experience in high-growth startups or customer-facing roles is a plus.
