This pivotal role within a Fortune 200 technology company focuses on leading federal tax examinations and managing complex controversy matters during a period of rapid organizational transformation. The incoming leader will resolve critical audit challenges, mitigate potential tax exposures, and establish proactive processes to minimize future compliance risks. Collaborating closely with internal business units and external auditors, this position drives strategic alignment while modernizing tax workflows through advanced technology and data analytics. Success requires a balance of sophisticated technical tax research and the ability to articulate complex tax positions to executive leadership.
What Success Looks Like (Objectives):

Serve as the primary liaison for IRS auditors, external consultants, and internal executive stakeholders to streamline all federal audit-related communications and strategic responses

Direct day-to-day federal examinations, including the research, formulation, and timely submission of responses to Information Document Requests (IDRs) and official notices

Formulate proactive compliance processes and robust internal controls that materially reduce future audit risk and exposure across the enterprise

Evaluate complex tax positions under ASC 740, document uncertain tax positions, and author high-quality technical tax memoranda supporting the firm's strategic planning

Partner with cross-functional corporate accounting and business teams to align tax planning initiatives with broader department OKRs and corporate objectives

Leverage AI-driven tax research platforms and automation tools to accelerate legislative monitoring, analyze tax developments, and synthesize regulatory impacts for senior leadership
Skills, Experience and Requirements Core Skills and Competencies (What you’ll bring):

Critical experience in leading federal tax examinations and managing controversy within a Big 4 accounting firm or a large corporate tax environment

Strong skills in advanced Excel modeling, data interpretation, and modern tax platforms such as Corptax, Longview, and Alteryx

Ability to translate complex, evolving tax regulations and legislative developments into clear, actionable business strategies for non-tax stakeholders

AI Literacy and the capability to apply emerging generative AI research tools to optimize tax planning, technical research, and legislative monitoring workflows

Advanced problem-solving and decision-making capabilities to navigate fluid, fast-paced environments and manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously

Strong collaboration and communication skills to effectively mentor junior tax staff and foster professional growth across a multidisciplinary tax team
Additional Qualifications:

Master of Science in Taxation (MST), Juris Doctor (JD), or LL.M. in Taxation

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active bar membership

Familiarity with One Stream, Orbit Analytics, or comparable enterprise financial data tools
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent
- Minimum Experience: 6 years of progressive corporate tax experience

Salary Ranges
Compensation: $133,705.00/Year - $180,900.00/Year
