Distinguishing Features: Painters and Senior Painters are responsible for the proper preparation and application of painting materials to a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces. A Senior Painter usually receives assignments from a Painter Supervisor who also inspects the Senior's work. A Senior Painter spends a substantial portion of time working with the tools of the craft while acting as a lead-worker for a small crew of Painters and helpers.

A Painter Supervisor is responsible for determining painting needs, estimating costs, deciding on methods of preparation and types of materials to be used, and assuring that all necessary safety precautions are enforced. A Painter Supervisor typically supervises several painting crews and is evaluated in terms of the success achieved in directing a diversified painting program.
