Job Description:
The Enterprise Data Governance Lead is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-wide data governance practices from within the Technology & Data Services organization. This role provides leadership over data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and processes to ensure data is accurate, consistent, secure, and effectively managed across the organization.
A key focus of this role is the creation, maintenance, and ongoing stewardship of the enterprise data dictionary, as well as the development and enforcement of data governance policies in partnership with business and technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s data governance framework within TDS.
Act as the primary point of accountability for data governance initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and IT strategy.
Serve as a trusted advisor to business and technology leaders on data governance best practices.
Collaborate closely with business units, data owners, data stewards, analytics teams, and TDS Data partners to drive consistent data practices.
Participate in or facilitate data governance forums, working groups, or councils as needed.
Resolve data definition, ownership, and usage issues by driving consensus across stakeholders.
Own and manage the enterprise data dictionary, ensuring consistent definitions, business rules, and metadata across systems.
Establish standards and processes for creating, updating, approving, and retiring data elements.
Partner with data owners, data stewards, and technical teams to ensure metadata accuracy, completeness, and usability.
Promote adoption and effective use of the data dictionary across the organization.
Develop, document, and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures, including but not limited to data quality, data ownership, data classification, and data lifecycle management.
Ensure data governance policies are effectively communicated, understood, and embedded into TDS processes and system development practices.
Monitor compliance with data governance policies and recommend corrective actions where needed
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related disciplines.
Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining data dictionaries or metadata repositories.
Strong experience developing and implementing data governance policies and standards.
Solid understanding of data lifecycle management, data quality concepts, and data stewardship models.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working within an Information Technology organization or enterprise data environment.
Familiarity with data governance tools, metadata management platforms, or data catalog solutions.
Knowledge of regulatory or compliance considerations related to data (e.g., privacy, security, retention).
Relevant certifications (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, CDMP) are a plus.
