Job Description Summary

The EMEA COE Technical Accounting Lead is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for providing advanced technical accounting guidance to EMEA Controllership. This role plays a critical advisory and governance function, supporting statutory compliance, operational accounting, SOX processes, and regional projects.
The role focuses on resolving complex accounting matters, developing scalable processes and methodologies, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring consistent application of group and local accounting policies across EMEA entities.

Job Description Key Responsibilities:

Technical Accounting Advisory (SME Function)

  • Serve as the primary technical accounting advisor to the EMEA Controllership COE team and Country Controllers on complex or judgmental accounting matters under IFRS, local GAAP, and group and SOX policies.
  • Research and interpret accounting standards and internal policies, providing clear accounting positions and recommendations.
  • Prepare technical accounting memos and supporting documentation for management and external audit purposes.

Complex Accounting Areas & Control Framework Development

  • Lead complex accounting processes across EMEA entities, including investment and goodwill impairment testing, income tax reconciliations, and lease accounting.
  • Support complex corporate transformation initiatives such as legal entity rationalization and entity reorganizations, through technical accounting analysis including residual goodwill calculations.
  • Design and implement robust, standardized and scalable processes, templates, documentation frameworks, and review procedures to support statutory audits, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide technical review and analytical support for statutory financial reporting across multiple jurisdictions to improve reporting accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and control gaps within operational and statutory accounting processes and support the implementation of improvements to strengthen governance and operational scalability.

Standardization & Knowledge Transfer:

  • Drive harmonization of accounting practices and documentation standards across the EMEA controllership organization.
  • Collaborate with global teams to ensure process consistency across operating segments.
  • Maintain a centralized repository for technical documentation, process guides, and knowledge resources to support sustainable execution of complex accounting processes.
  • Deliver technical guidance and targeted training to controllership teams and support capability building across the EMEA controllership teams.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification.
  • Extensive experience in operational and statutory accounting within a multinational environment.
  • Strong IFRS expertise; multi-GAAP exposure advantageous.
  • Prior experience working with external auditors on complex accounting matters.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
