Editorial Assistant – Bon Appétit and Epicurious

Bon Appétit/Epicurious seeks a proactive and supremely organized Editorial Assistant to join our fast-paced team in New York. Able to efficiently multitask, prioritize, and communicate, the successful candidate will work as part of an integrated Content Team supporting Bon Appétit/Epicurious’s daily workflow across platforms and topic areas. They must be ready and willing to jump in wherever the team needs support, from helping to arrange meetings to building articles in our CMS; organizing our ideas and brainstorming process; assisting with data entry for our edit calendar; directly pitching, writing, and editing stories and newsletters; and more.

This role reports to the Executive Editor and is based in our NYC office (Monday through Thursday in office; Fridays work from home).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Broadly support the Content Team across subject areas and platforms, including (but not limited) to pitching, writing, and editing stories and newsletters; building content in our CMS and newsletter platform; assisting with data entry for our edit calendar; packaging display copy for digital; helping to schedule meetings; and more.

  • Support our content refresh operation, including taking on updates of articles and galleries across topic areas.

  • Assist with organizing our ideas process, including setting up brainstorm meetings; ensuring prompts and pitch documents are circulated in a timely fashion; cleaning up and archiving ideas documents as needed; and supporting with launching production on any greenlit stories.

  • Support the operations team with processing invoices and contracts, inviting freelancers to our contributor system, maintaining our budget-tracking system, updating internal team documentation, and more.

  • Support ad-hoc admin requests within the team at large.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • College degree in journalism or related field and/or 1–2 years of equivalent work or internship experience at a fast-paced media or lifestyle company or brand.

  • Strong writing, editing, copy-editing skills, and attention to detail.

  • A self-starting team player, detail-oriented, efficient, organized, and able to problem-solve and multitask.

  • Experience proactively and effectively communicating and collaborating across departments and levels within a team.

  • Experience with fact-checking and research is a plus.

  • Proficiency with GSuite (Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.). Tech savvy with the ability to quickly learn and navigate new software tools, technologies, and processes.

  • Prior experience with digital and print CMSs.

  • Comfort with, and interest, in appearing on video and audio.

  • A passion for cooking, food, and service journalism.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $66,300 to $78,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
