Right now, we are seeking a bright and energised Mechanical Engineer.
Raytheon Australia was selected in December 2020 to provide Capability Lifecycle Management Services to the Commonwealth for its fleet of Minor Vessels. This is an important Capability for the RAN. The fleet of Minor Vessels are spread across WA, NT and QLD. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for Mechanical discipline related activities overseeing the successful development and delivery of Engineering Changes for this fleet.
As a Mechanical Engineer within the Design and Engineering Change Team, you will work alongside other engineering disciplines to liaise with stakeholders, survey and quote engineering changes, and develop, review, and support the approval of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and technical investigations.
This role provides the opportunity to learn, share knowledge, and be mentored in Systems Engineering methodologies and processes. Supported by the Engineering Manager, you will also be enrolled in our national engineering network. Working within a friendly, collaborative team to meet the needs of our end customer, the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) the role involves direct engagement with peers, Australian Defence Force personnel, capability partners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical interface between stakeholders, conducting engineering changes to derive functional, performance, and interface requirements that meet mechanical system requirements.
- Plan and lead assigned engineering projects from concept through to Detailed Design Review, including engineering change scoping (SOWs, RFQs, BOEs, schedules, and stakeholder engagement).
- Apply demonstrated experience in developing platform engineering changes, participating in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses, and implementing solutions, including their integration, verification, and validation.
- Conduct mechanical engineering design activities for typical maritime systems such as propulsion (shafting, bearings, lubrication oil systems), HVAC, freshwater and seawater systems, hydraulic systems, lifting systems, and refrigeration systems.
- Perform technical risk analyses to support the development and review of hazard logs, safety case arguments, and risk mitigation actions in accordance with the Defence Seaworthiness Management System and the Navy Safety Management System
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain and enhance Raytheon Australia’s reputation as a trusted partner in delivering systems integration and mission support solutions.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, with professional development sufficient to attain Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) recognition with Engineers Australia in a relevant engineering stream, including the ability to attain RPEQ registration.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience where a university degree is held.
- Experience conducting mechanical discipline activities, including involvement in one or more Systems Engineering practices such as requirements development, engineering design, design integration, and verification and validation.
- Experience developing and reviewing mechanical engineering documentation, including discipline-related calculations, mechanical CAD drawings, hazard logs, work instructions, test procedures, and engineering reports.
- Experience in mechanical design and maintenance of maritime vessels.
- Experience in Configuration Management
- Knowledge of statutory regulations and Classification rule sets.
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at client, peer, supplier, and senior leadership levels.
- Ability to produce clear, well written, and well‐presented reports to a high quality and standard.
- This position may require availability to travel when required.
