Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

The Main Campus Emergency Department treats over 61,000 patients annually, providing a critical link to healthcare for our community, the region and the world (through Cleveland Clinic Critical Care Transport).
As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you will provide evidence-based clinical care to some of the most critically ill patients in the United States. You will care for adult, pediatric and/or neonatal patient populations, evaluate, treat and care for patients with a wide range of lung diseases and respiratory disorders, such as asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, COPD and lung cancer.
RRTs in our ED also perform muti-skilled duties such as IV insertion, ECGs, peripheral phlebotomy, and they have high autonomy in this multi-skilled role.
This role provides an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy trauma environment and work with a multidisciplinary team collaborating with Registered Nurses, Physicians and other caregivers to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care.
A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00pm—7:30am, with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
-
Implement and monitor patient care plans.
-
Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.
-
Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
-
Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.

Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Associate's Degree and graduate of a Co
ARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program:
-
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
-
Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure.
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
Prior experience in critical care.
-
Bachelor’s degree.
-
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification.

Physical Requirements:

Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.

May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
