As an Electrician, you will perform skilled work related to the installation, removal, maintenance and repair of electrical circuits and equipment. In this role, you will troubleshoot equipment issues, maintain inventory of repair parts and supplies, and complete preventive and corrective maintenance work to help ensure a safe and efficient environment.
A caregiver in this role works days from 7: 00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Bend and install conduit including fittings, pull boxes and outlet boxes, install control panels and devices, equipment and protective devices, pull in wire and connect circuits, equipment, control panels and protective devices.
- Analyze and locate faults and causes of trouble in electrical circuits and equipment and take proper corrective or preventative measures.
- Make arrangements for electrical circuits and equipment to be removed from and placed back into operations.
- Install and repair coax cable/twisted pair wire and termination for CRT/PC printers; keep records of installations.
- Inspect, locate trouble, repair and services electrical appliances and equipment.
- Perform duties such as replacing broken or worn parts; check, replace and adjust heating elements, relays, switches, thermostats, humidifiers, protective devices and controls; check electrical drives and adjust to realign them.
- See that appliances and equipment are operating properly and are properly grounded.
- Inspect, maintain and repair motors of any size or type; check motor windings for opens or shorts; repair motors exclusive of rewinding, removing/installing armatures/bearings; replace and adjust brushes, check rotation as required.
- Perform electrical inspection on incoming/repaired electrical equipment per departmental procedures.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections as required and maintain records.
- Test electrical components of gas alarms and maintain records.
- Maintain and does minor repairs to fire alarms, card access, ticket machine, elevators and electrical doors.
- Test electrical beds and maintain records.
- Maintain nurse call system. Inspect and repair motor control panels and wire motors control panels with auxiliary drives.
- Work with Clinical Engineering or telephone technician to bore holes and install conduit and wire on medium size projects.
- Clean and store equipment and materials after completion of work; maintain shop areas in neat, orderly and safety condition.
- Maintain accurate documentation on incoming inspections, preventative maintenance, performance testing and repair of equipment per department policies and procedures.
- Repair/replace television in patients' rooms and waiting areas when needed.
- Assist loading/unloading equipment, materials and supplies as required by Director and/or Supervisor.
- Keep Director and/or Supervisor informed when leaving/returning from deliveries pick up.
- Operate power/hand tools and equipment, e.g., drills, saws.
- Notify Supervisor and/or Director of unsafe or malfunctioning conditions in regard to equipment, buildings and grounds.
- Participate in the Hospital Disaster Plan and fire drills.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ohio driver's license
- Maintain eligibility of insurability to operate Lutheran Hospital's vehicles
- Working knowledge of applied electricity, including AC electrical circuits machinery, measurements and calculations
- Working knowledge of layout, construction, function and operations of the equipment, circuits and connections
- Working knowledge of safe rigging and scaffolding practices and the use and care of tackle hoists and ladders required in the work
- Knowledge of safety factors required in use of tools
- Ability to locate and analyze trouble in electrical circuits and equipment quickly and accurately
- Ability to work from complex drawings, circuit diagrams and specifications
- Ability to operate power equipment associated with job duties including pick-up truck
- Working knowledge of all types of voltages
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferably from a vocational high or trade school with courses in electricity, maintenance and repair of electrical appliances and equipment
- Three years of experience in hospital setting
- Three years of Electrician experience as a fully qualified electrician

- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
