As a Surgical Technologist, you will play an essential role in delivering safe, high-quality surgical care by assisting surgeons and Registered Nurses throughout a wide range of operative procedures. Working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, you will help maintain a sterile field, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and support positive patient outcomes from the start of each procedure through completion.

In this hands-on role, you will prepare the operating room by organizing supplies and equipment, setting up sterile instrumentation, performing surgical counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments during procedures, preparing sterile dressings, and cleaning instruments for terminal sterilization. ​A caregiver in this position work during a 3-6 month orientation| Orientation is Mon-Fri, 7: 00am - 3:30pm| Weekender Flex positions work both weekend shifts (12hours) + 1 weekday shift (12 hours) to be eligible for the bonus of 8 additional hours of pay (straight time, notovertime)| Weekenders will still have to orient and train on weekdays – 6:00am - 2:30pm before moving to weekend schedule.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.

  • Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.

  • Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.

  • Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.

  • Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”

  • Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program, accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)

  • OR Completion of military surgical technology program will meet the educational requirements of an accredited Surgical Technology Program

  • Certification of either CST or TS-C required for candidates who have not completed an accredited Surgical Technology program:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

  • Certified Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work
  • Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $28.50

Maximum hourly: $39.00

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
