As a Non-Registered EEG Technician, you will perform routine electroencephalographic examinations in a welcoming and encouraging workplace environment. In this position, you have an excellent opportunity to gain extensive hands-on experience in EEG from expert physicians and caregivers.

This role offers excellent growth opportunities, including the chance to specialize in Neurology within a dynamic and innovative department. Team members work on a stroke-certified unit, gaining comprehensive stroke education and hands-on experience with a diverse and complex patient population. You'll collaborate with a highly skilled nursing team known for strong clinical assessment skills and a dedication to continuous learning and exceptional patient care. Additional career development includes opportunities for shared governance involvement, serving as a preceptor, and pursuing leadership roles within the organization.

A caregiver in this position works full-time 40 hours week. Sunday – Saturday, Possible Weekends. Schedule can change based on the week. 7am -11pm we need this candidate to be flexible in the role and could be as easy as Monday to Friday, but will need the flexibility to work weekends, as needed.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform electroencephalographic examinations.

  • Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognize artifacts and take appropriate steps to eliminate them.

  • Monitor on the same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.

  • Observe patient with video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly, and check focus, lighting and microphone.

  • Set-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated.

  • Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing event button and care of videos.

  • Abstract relevant information from the patients' clinical record and obtain additional information.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate’s Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or a related patient care field OR two years of direct patient care experience

  • Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee Program

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross

  • American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) Credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
  • Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
