The Lead Pharmacist – Inpatient practices at Fairview Hospital, a large acute care facility supporting a broad range of inpatient, surgical, and specialty services, with integration across both hospital and outpatient clinic pharmacy operations. This role blends operational leadership and clinical practice, including managing pharmacist schedules, overseeing pharmacy interns, and serving as a key liaison to outpatient clinics. Responsibilities also include maintaining downtime procedures, leading departmental and enterprise initiatives such as Hospital Care at Home, and participating in Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee activities including formulary review and therapeutic evaluations. The Lead Pharmacist plays a critical role in communicating medication management updates, supporting workflow efficiency, and contributing to strategic initiatives, while gaining strong exposure to leadership development and advancement opportunities.

A caregiver in this role will work full-time, rotating shifts (days/evenings based on a 4-week cycle), Monday through Friday with on-call expectations rotating every 6th week (full week, Friday to Friday) with no weekend, holiday or floating requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Lead and coordinate work activities for assigned practice areas and provide feedback to caregivers regarding performance under the direction of the manager.

  • Train and mentor caregivers and residents and precept students.

  • Participate in interviewing and recommend selection of candidates.

  • Triage issues to management and follow-up.

  • Participate in operational tasks such as workflow oversight, process decision making, project implementation, and drug shortage management.

  • Ensure and maintain quality control in regard to patient care and medication and equipment usage.

  • Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems.

  • Advise prescriber of medication related issues and recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate.

  • Review, interpret, clarify, enter and verify patient's information and medication orders for processing.

  • Assist with health-system level decision-making related to practice area, committee work, and decision making for relevant policies.

  • Provide drug information support for pertinent drug information questions.

  • Provide management support and demonstrate leadership for assigned practice area.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire

  • For individuals required to administer immunizations: current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire

  • For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events: current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross or certification obtained within one year of hire

  • Completion of a Health-system Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) PGY2 Residency OR completion of either a post-graduate year 1 (PGY-1) or post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) and one year of relevant pharmacy experience OR three years relevant pharmacy experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Previous leadership experience
  • Minimum one or more years of experience in an inpatient pharmacy setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform functions of the job while reaching and stretching, and manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
