As a Telesitter Technician, also known as a Virtual Patient Companion, you will provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients through the use of the telemonitoring system. Your first line of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at-risk behaviors and summoning the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. It’s vital that you remain knowledgeable and supportive of patients and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies and procedures.
A caregiver in this position works days from 6: 00AM – 6:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Demonstrate an understanding and proficiency of the use of the telesitter software.

Maintain visual observation at all times.

Verbally redirect patients over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient rooms.

Immediately escalate nursing personnel if patients require assistance or when patients appear to pose a threat to themselves or others.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the appropriate care to the patient population based on an individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN.

Participate in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving to monitoring area and upon completion of shift assignment.

Arrange break times and inform staff prior to leaving the monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.

Provide patients with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.

Perform environmental/safety check as required.

Collaborate with members of the health care team to promote the delivery of patient care and the overall functioning of the unit.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High School Diploma/GED
-
Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing

Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program OR current enrollment at an accredited school of nursing with the completion of a nursing fundamentals course or hospital-based NA/PC orientation
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment under moderate pressure, multi-task with accuracy to keep track of a large number of patients and requires long periods of sitting and watching a computer monitors.
- Visual acuity for observing telesitter monitor data.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
