Akron General’s Operating Room (O.R.) department has a team of dedicated caregivers that work collaboratively to provide the best possible care for their surgical patients. These caregivers are eager and excited to add an Experience Registered Nurse (RN) to their team. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. RNs scrub and circulate through each service line during a 6-month orientation period and can complete extra rotations on specialty call teams to gain proficiency and join the team.

How You’ll Benefit:

  • Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources.

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) variable shifts with on-call requirements. You must work 48 hours within a six-week period.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Deliver professional nursing care in an operative setting to adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

  • Perform scrub functions, such as selecting and handling instruments and supplies.

  • Perform circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after the procedure.

  • Prepare the Operating Room, surgical instruments and surgical equipment for use.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Internal applicants must have one year of recent related clinical experience.

  • External applicants must have two years recent related clinical experience.

  • Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • If performing moderate/procedural sedation, must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Medium Work
  • Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > 75 pounds periodically.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
