The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient supports daily pharmacy operations by working alongside pharmacists to ensure the safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of medications throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include preparing, packaging, and delivering medications to patient care units, maintaining inventory, managing pharmacy records, and providing excellent customer service to caregivers across the organization. This role plays a vital part in supporting efficient inpatient pharmacy operations while helping ensure patients receive the medications they need safely and on time.
A caregiver in this position will work rotating first and second shifts, with start times ranging from 6: 00am to 1:00pm and 8-hour shifts scheduled between 6:00am and 9:30pm based on operational needs. Caregivers participate in an every-third-weekend rotation, provide occasional third-shift coverage for PTO, and are expected to work two holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.

Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.

Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.

Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.

Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.

Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High School Diploma/GED

Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).

In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee

Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months

Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Six months of hospital experience
- Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
Physical Requirements:
- Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $21.50
Maximum hourly: $31.00
