We are expanding with a new, one-million-square-foot, 15-floor, state-of-the-art facility on Cleveland Clinic Main Campus designed to elevate care for complex neurological conditions — including spine injuries, epileptic seizures, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis and stroke.
This advanced building brings every stage of care under one roof, featuring dedicated spaces for outpatient services, surgery, stepdown, ICU and epilepsy monitoring, as well as 12 state-of-the-art operating rooms fitted with advanced technology. Further features include an expanded ambulatory, infusion, imaging, EMG, sleep and rehabilitation units. We are welcoming new caregivers to collaborate within our multidisciplinary teams and contribute to nationally recognized, innovative neurological care. Surgical Technologists, sometimes called “scrub techs”, assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses and ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintaining a sterile field. Surgical Technologists perform a variety of functions, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, performing appropriate counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments to the surgeon and assistant during the procedure, prepare sterile dressing and clean instruments for terminal sterilization.
A caregiver in this position works days and on-call from 7: 00 a.m. -- 3:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. -- 8:30 p.m.
Orientation will take place for three to six months from 7: 00 a.m. -- 3:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
-
Assist RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
-
Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
-
Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
-
Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
-
Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Completion of a surgical technology program accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES OR completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Physical Requirements:
-
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
-
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
-
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
-
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
-
Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
-
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
