Citi is hiring an experienced intellectual property attorney with a Patent Office registration and experience with trademark and copyright legal practice.

This role requires a pragmatic, proactive attorney with a thorough understanding of intellectual property law, especially for operations in the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the acquisition and maintenance of IP rights (e.g., patent prosecution, trademark clearance and registration) for a global business with a strong focus on U.S. operations.
  • Responsible for providing Citi businesses and functions with legal counsel on all manners of intellectual property law (especially patent prosecution and trademark & copyright law). Experience with IP litigation, trade secrets and social media is desirable.
  • Collaborates across internal lines of business, control/support functions and/or external counsel on matters related to intellectual property rights.
  • Manages day-to-day legal activities as an IP law expert.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-6+ years of relevant intellectual property law experience, preferably with some experience in financial services.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
  • Excellent, interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Bar license in good standing to practice law.

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree.
