Citi continues to enhance its business control and governance framework by building out Institutional Credit Management (ICM), a first line of defense business line, to house and consistently manage credit risk activities performed for Citi’s institutional clients. ICM’s objective is to provide integrated end-to-end credit underwriting, identification, measurement, management, and monitoring for wholesale credit across the enterprise. Within ICM, the Credit Underwriting function (“ICM UW” or “UW”) provides credit analysis, underwriting, and first line of defense credit approval for periodic / material transaction reviews, and any necessary subsequent credit monitoring across all institutional business including Corporate Banking, Services, and Markets relationships.
A Credit Analyst is expected to have a basic understanding of credit risk, leveraging off an academic background Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. This role reports to the Underwriter/Staffer (SVP) within the ICM UW organization, but takes each interaction as an opportunity to further learn about credit risk, industry fundamentals, effective writing, and communication. That includes the production of annual reviews, quarterly reviews, and the support of ad-hoc transactions and portfolio & industry reviews and stress testing, in partnership with Citi Israel Underwriter, Banking and Risk. This role has responsibility for Citi's institutional clients in Israel which ranges from corporates, financial institutions, and public sector obligors.
Key Responsibilities
Executes, aligned with global and regional strategies, all responsibilities regarding underwriting, including, but not limited to:
- Assess the credit and financial strength of Citi’s counterparts by performing fundamental credit analysis of counterparties using both quantitative and qualitative factors. This includes conducting initial financial analysis, due diligence, projection modeling, stress testing, risk ratings and other in-depth analysis
- Complete Credit Approval Memos (CAMs) and Final Obligor Risk Ratings (FORR) of Citi’s Counterparties based on independent assessment and judgement; completed based on the due diligence of the client and industry knowledge to provide appropriate extensions of credit remaining within Citi’s risk appetite. This includes adoption of leading practices in credit analysis, underwriting, and monitoring, including the end-to-end underwriting process, from early origination discussions to development of credit approval memos
- Support relationships with key stakeholders in Banking and Risk and with key Regulators, Internal Audit, and control functions
- Support ICM Underwriting organization on strategic initiatives /projects as required
Risk Management Experience:
- Experience in and exposure to global credit risk management standards
- Ability to understand financing and product structures
- Ability to assess financial and industry data to conduct credit assessment
- Able to discuss and address issues associated with the allocation of risk assets and risk capital in partnership with stakeholders and product organizations.
Client Relationships / Business Partnership:
- Ability to understand nuances of local markets, local regulation, and the capabilities and practices of competitors
- Navigates organizational complexity and breaks silos
- Creates and sustains a network of strong partnerships with the business in all segments & geographies and other risk functions
- Provides well-reasoned, balanced assessments of risk/return trade-offs associated with transactions and client relationships
Qualifications:
- Financial Services experience including 0-2 years of credit experience in banking or credit risk management
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
- Demonstrates strong ethics and integrity
- Ability to understand the ‘big picture’ in a complex environment
- Strong verbal & written communication skills. Active listening skills
- Demonstrated influencing and negotiating ability, resolve conflicts amongst various constituencies
- Good presentation skills – adept at presenting effectively to audiences of various sizes and various constituencies
