The Senior Lead Counsel, Privacy Legal, will serve as a primary advisor on privacy and data protection laws and regulations to Citi businesses and functions across the Asia Pacific region. The Senior Lead Privacy Counsel will provide guidance on novel and complex privacy legal issues and execute the global privacy legal strategy that further enables business innovation and growth in fulfillment of Citi’s mission.
Responsibilities:
- Lead workstreams to analyze key implications of emerging and existing privacy and data protection laws and regulations that impact the region, including the data protection laws in China, India, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia
- Partner with business teams and coordinate with regional counsel to identify and manage privacy priorities
- Provide legal guidance to business teams, functions, and stakeholders on the launch of products, services, and activities to implement privacy by design
- Serve as Privacy lead for escalations in complex negotiations with vendors, customers, partners and other parties
- Partner with senior leaders and region counsel on strategic risk mitigation efforts related to privacy
- Represent Citi at trade association meetings and execute a plan for engagement with industry representatives and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with key stakeholders and senior leadership to develop internal communications regarding privacy and data protection legal developments
- Engage in thought leadership regarding emerging technologies (e.g., AI, and privacy enhancing technologies) and engage relevant internal stakeholders
- Coordinate and lead privacy aspects of cyber/incident response, data security, and internal investigations
- Provide training to regional colleagues to increase privacy awareness and expertise
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of legal experience, with at least 3 years in privacy
- Deep knowledge of privacy and data protection laws and regulations in the Asia Pacific region
- Demonstrated ability to provide clear, concise guidance on complex issues within a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organization, communication (oral and written) skills, including the ability to present to business, legal, and technology partners
- Proactive engagement on privacy and data protection issues, and experience in identifying and escalating legal risks and concerns
- Superb interpersonal skills, including building cross-functional partnerships and ability to influence and drive change through collaboration
Education:
- Juris Doctor or international law degree
- International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) certification preferred
