Role Summary
The Area Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for driving sales growth, client loyalty, and operational excellence across multiple retail branches. This role focuses on leading and developing a team of Branch Managers and sales professionals, ensuring a strong risk and control environment, and contributing to the development of business strategies.
Core Accountabilities include:
- Leading execution strategies to achieve performance goals and objectives
- Driving a culture of strong risk and controls
- Leading a client centric culture to drive excellence in client experience
- Cultivating talent and building a high engaged workforce
- Overseeing branch performance including expense discipline, hiring and staffing optimization and achievement of sales goals
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Performance Management
- Drive sales growth and market share acquisition by leading and coaching branch and area staff ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial targets.
- Oversee branch operational performance analyzing data to develop and execute action plans, and communicating clear performance expectations.
- Integrate and manage promotional campaigns, ensuring alignment with compensation programs to motivate desired behaviors and business delivery.
- Under the leadership of the Market Director, identify synergies, review sales pipelines, and coordinate priorities for branches.
- Collaborate with functional managers to identify sales and service opportunities through client and area data analysis and building community partnerships.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Foster a robust risk and control culture, ensuring compliance with enterprise risk management frameworks and internal policies.
- Proactively identify, assess, and escalate risks, engaging actively in their management.
- Ensure controls are in compliance with prescribed policies and procedures.
- Exercise sound ethical judgment and maintain transparency in managing and reporting control issues, holding teams accountable for adherence to standards.
Talent Development & Culture

Directly lead, coach, and develop Branch Managers and their teams.

Identify, source, and develop talent, through our internal Learning Development team as well as internal Talent Acquisition partners.

Build and leverage an engaged talent pool, fostering a culture of inclusion and excellence.

Client Experience & Growth

Ensure a client-first approach, meeting client needs for trust, relevance, and convenience.

Drive deposit balance growth through client engagement, outreach, portfolio management, and sales productivity.

Deliver sustainable and balanced growth by harnessing "One Citi" resources to meet comprehensive client financial needs.

Focus on client onboarding and engaging the existing customer base to drive long-term profitability.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience in retail banking and sales management.
- Demonstrated success in sales, service, operations, and employee retention.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proven ability to adapt to organizational, business, and regulatory changes, inspiring others, and exhibiting flexibility and self-motivation
Education:
- Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent is required.
- Master's degree is preferred.
Supporting 15 Branches with up to 90 employees within the defined San Francisco Marin Area geography.
