Technical Lead - Java Development

The Technical Lead - Java Development is a senior position responsible for leading technical teams, driving architectural decisions, and overseeing the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-grade application systems in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to provide technical leadership, establish development standards, mentor engineering teams, and ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions that align with business objectives and technology strategy.

Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Lead the technical vision and architecture for Java-based enterprise applications using Java 17+,Spring Boot, and Spring Batch frameworks
  • Define and drive technical strategy, architectural patterns, and technology roadmaps for development teams
  • Design and architect complex, distributed microservices-based solutions with emphasis on scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, design patterns, and development methodologies across teams
  • Conduct architectural reviews, technical design sessions, and proof-of-concept evaluations for new technologies and approaches
  • Make critical technical decisions on technology stack, frameworks, tools, and infrastructure components
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and technologies

Hands-on Development & Technical Excellence

  • Architect and implement high-performance enterprise applications using Java 17+ with modern features including records, sealed classes, pattern matching, virtual threads, and reactive programming
  • Design and develop sophisticated database solutions using SQL and Oracle databases, including complex stored procedures, performance tuning, query optimization, and data modeling
  • Architect and implement event-driven architectures and real-time data pipelines using Apache Kafka for streaming and message processing
  • Design and implement distributed caching strategies using Redis to optimize application performance, session management, and data consistency
  • Lead code reviews, ensure code quality, and maintain high standards for technical excellence
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, performance bottlenecks, and production incidents
  • Analyze applications to identify vulnerabilities, security issues, and implement comprehensive testing strategies including unit, integration, and performance testing

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of senior, intermediate, and junior developers
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and career development support to team members
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence
  • Conduct technical interviews, participate in hiring decisions, and build high-performing engineering teams
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing sessions, technical workshops, and training programs
  • Perform performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Communicate technical concepts, architectural decisions, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Infrastructure teams, DevOps, Security, and other technology groups
  • Act as primary technical point of contact and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Present technical proposals, architecture designs, and project updates to senior management and governance committees
  • Manage technical dependencies, risks, and impediments across multiple teams and projects

Required Technical Skills: Core Technologies (Expert Level)

  • Java 17+: Expert-level proficiency in modern Java features, JVM internals, performance tuning, and memory management
  • Spring Ecosystem: Deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Batch, Spring Data, Spring Security, Spring Cloud
  • SQL & Oracle: Advanced database architecture, complex query optimization, PL/SQL, partitioning, indexing strategies, and performance tuning
  • Apache Kafka: Expert knowledge of event streaming, distributed messaging, Kafka Streams, schema registry, and event-driven architectures
  • Redis: Advanced caching strategies, distributed data structures, pub/sub patterns, and high-availability configurations

Additional Technical Competencies

  • Microservices Architecture: Proven experience designing and implementing microservices patterns, API gateways, service mesh, and distributed systems
  • Cloud Platforms: good to have Experience with cloud-native development (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • CI/CD & DevOps: Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, GitLab, automated testing, and deployment automation
  • API Design: RESTful API design and API management platforms
  • Monitoring & Observability: Experience with APM tools, logging frameworks (ELK stack), and distributed tracing App D
  • Security: Knowledge of application security, OAuth2, JWT, encryption, and secure coding practices
  • Performance Engineering: Profiling, load testing, capacity planning, and performance optimization techniques

Qualifications:

  • 8-12years of relevant experience
  • Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
  • Ability to take ownership and make technical decisions on software development projects
  • Experience with dependency management, change management, continuous integration testing tools, and audit/compliance requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of software engineering and object-oriented design
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
