As a Direct Tax Analyst, you will play a vital role in ensuring Chewy’s compliance with State and Federal tax regulations while contributing to the financial health of the company. What you’ll do:
Prepare and support state income, franchise, and gross receipts filings, including combined/separate returns, B&O/margin/commercial activity taxes, and preparation and maintenance of state apportionment schedules (sales, property, and payroll factors)
Assist with property tax compliance, planning, and supporting property tax audits.
Manage business license registrations and renewals for all Chewy locations, ensuring timely filings, payments, and compliance with municipal and state requirements.
Monitor multistate nexus thresholds, support state registrations for new entities or locations, perform research on state law changes, and prepare quarterly state estimated tax payments and quarterly state tax provision calculations.
Support state income tax audits by preparing workpapers, responding to information requests, maintaining organized audit files, and assisting with notice resolution.
Provide occasional support for federal income tax activities, including federal return workpapers, estimated payments, extensions, and assigned portions of the tax provision during peak periods.
Prepare and maintain state-related account reconciliations and assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities for tax accounts.
Monitor legislative changes in US tax laws that may impact the Company’s tax positions, including tax accounting implications.
Work closely with various groups within and outside of the organization (including finance, legal, external auditors, and third-party providers) with respect to wide array of tax, financing, and operational matters.
Enhance SALT compliance processes by improving workflows, calendars, and tracking tools while leveraging Excel, tax software, and automation or AI-enabled solutions to streamline recurring tasks.
What you’ll need:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Master's in taxation (MST) from an accredited college/university
3+ years of relevant tax experience in an accounting firm, corporation and/or law firm
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Ability to work effectively on a team
Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to articulate complex information
Self-motivated with a strong internal drive to learn and a high degree of attention to detail and the ability to deliver on deadlines.
Proactive in solving problems and innovative in finding solutions.
Bonus:
Tax software experience for compliance and provision (OneSource and/or Corptax )
Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and a working knowledge of ASC 740
Experience with Hyperion, Oracle ERP, Oracle FCCS.
