You’ll be part of a culture that values everything that you do, who you are, and the goals you have set for your career. We want to give you the opportunity to grow, earn competitive pay, and be happy while you do it. Sounds simple, but we love it.

Your Opportunity:

Chewy is hiring a Software Development Manager to lead critical engineering teams within our Pharmacy and Diet Engineering organization. In this role, you will own and evolve the systems that power our pharmacy operations, supporting pharmacists, veterinarians, and pet parents through seamless, safe, and highly efficient experiences.

You will lead teams responsible for building Chewy’s flagship pharmacy user experience, integrating AI into core business workflows, and scaling systems that balance safety, accuracy, and speed across the prescription lifecycle. You will own systems that directly impact millions of prescriptions and time-sensitive pet health decisions. This role sits at the intersection of technology, healthcare, and operations, directly contributing to Chewy’s mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents.

Come join a team that is redefining what modern pet pharmacy systems can look like by combining innovation, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to pet health.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and develop two engineering teams (8–10 engineers) responsible for Pharmacy Operations systems, including pharmacist and veterinary service experiences

  • Own the technical and operational delivery of complex workflows that power prescription processing, approvals, and communications

  • Partner closely with Pharmacy Operations, Product, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver solutions that improve safety, speed, and scalability

  • Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership, ensuring systems are designed for high availability, performance, and reliability

  • Drive the evolution of Chewy’s next-generation pharmacy UX, focusing on usability and operational efficiency

  • Identify and implement opportunities to integrate AI/ML capabilities into pharmacy workflows to improve automation and decision-making

  • Establish and uphold engineering best practices across design, development, testing, and deployment

  • Champion Engineering Operational Excellence, including improving development processes, system observability, incident management, and continuous delivery practices

  • Build strong partnerships across organizational boundaries, acting as a trusted technical and business leader

  • Hire, mentor, and grow engineering talent, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Define and track success metrics such as system reliability, throughput, and operational efficiency, ensuring consistent delivery against business goals

What You’ll Need:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 7+ years of experience in software development, including designing and building scalable, distributed systems

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams as a people manager

  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex, high-impact software systems in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong technical depth with the ability to guide architecture and design decisions across multiple systems

  • Experience building and operating highly available, scalable systems in cloud environments such as AWS

  • Proven ability to partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions

  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments and driving execution across multiple teams

Bonus:

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, or other regulated domains

  • Experience integrating AI/ML solutions into production systems or business workflows

  • Familiarity with modern Java-based ecosystems such as Spring Boot

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and orchestration tools such as AWS and Terraform

  • Background in building systems that support operational workflows or internal tools at scale

What You’ll Get:

  • A place where you can be your authentic self and grow your career. Our pet parents and partners are from everywhere--different places and different walks of life. It is what makes them unique. Likewise, Chewtopians are encouraged to bring their perspectives to deliver on our mission!

  • Work in a culture that cares, with managers who value you and your career journey. Be empowered to think big, thrive on delivering results, and to become your best.

  • Development of meaningful connections with a diverse group of Chewtopians through Team Member Resource Groups and celebrate inclusivity with various company events, programs, and activities.

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision benefits, in addition to wellness programs and resources, enabling you to be your best self in and outside of work.

The base salary range for this role is $149,000 - $225,000.00.

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location.
