Public Affairs Advisor for the San Joaquin Valley (SJV) serves as the lead communications advisor for the SJV asset and a key contributor to external stakeholder engagement efforts. The role develops and executes internal and external communications strategies aligned with business, employee engagement, and advocacy priorities, while supporting relationship-building with local government, community, and business stakeholders. The position also provides flexible support to the Corporate Affairs US West region team based on regional priorities and business needs. Chevron’s San Joaquin Valley operations span Kern, Fresno, and Monterey Counties; periodic travel within the region is required.

Job Description: Internal & External Communications (approx. 60%)

  • Serve as lead communications advisor for the San Joaquin Valley asset, providing strategic counsel and execution in support of business priorities.
  • Develop and deliver proactive internal and external communications strategies aligned with business objectives, employee engagement, and advocacy efforts.
  • Provide communications counsel to asset leadership, including message development and executive communications support.
  • Plan and execute communications campaigns and content across internal, external, and digital channels, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with approved messaging and company policy.
  • Monitor traditional and social media to identify emerging issues, risks, and opportunities and recommend appropriate communications responses.

External Stakeholder Engagement (approx. 20%)

  • Advance Chevron’s community and government relationships through strategic engagement with local government officials, community organizations, business groups, and other key external stakeholders.
  • Sustain long‑term, trusted relationships through effective preparation, meaningful engagement, and consistent follow‑through.
  • Partner with asset colleagues and Corporate Affairs peers to ensure alignment of messaging, awareness of emerging issues, and coordinated stakeholder interactions.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of stakeholder engagement approaches, including preparation of briefing materials and key messages, as appropriate.
  • Represent Chevron in stakeholder meetings, community events, and local engagements in a manner consistent with company values and professional standards.

Corporate Affairs (US West) Support (approx. 20%)

  • Provide flexible, cross-functional support to the US West Corporate Affairs team, contributing across multiple disciplines based on regional needs.
  • Contribute to US West regional priorities through participation in special projects, such as issues management, community investment coordination, cross‑functional campaigns, or executive support, as needed.

Necessary Skills and Experience: Strategic communications and excellent writing skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage communications from strategy development through tactical execution, with strong storytelling capabilities across a variety of channels and audiences. Proven skill in developing clear, concise, and compelling content that supports business priorities.

External stakeholder engagement and relationship-building expertise.

Experience supporting or leading engagement with external stakeholders such as local government officials, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, or business partners. Demonstrated ability to prepare leaders for stakeholder interactions, develop key messages and briefing materials, and maintain productive, trust-based relationships in complex or sensitive environments.

Strong collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment where diversity is valued and inclusion is essential. Ability to partner with business leaders, colleagues, and Corporate Affairs peers to drive alignment and achieve shared outcomes.

Business and regulatory awareness.

Working knowledge of the energy industry and an understanding of business, government, and community dynamics in California. Ability to apply this knowledge to communications and stakeholder engagement activities that support business objectives.

Project management and organizational effectiveness.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, identify and analyze business challenges, and develop integrated communications or engagement approaches to address them. Skilled at planning, coordinating, and executing work efficiently while meeting deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $120,300 – $206,400 . The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
