We're looking for a strong candidate with a passion for coaching and developing people to take on team lead responsibilities within the Compliance Operations team. Compliance Operations serves as the 1LOD function within Checkout.com, where the teams in Compliance Operations are responsible for performing sanctions screening and transaction monitoring reviews throughout the merchants’ lifecycle. This is a great opportunity to be part of the team to support by driving exceptional individuals and collective performances across the Compliance Operations teams.

What your responsibilities will be:

  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the Compliance Operations team.

  • Act as a brand ambassador for Checkout.com’s operating principles (Talk Straight, One Team, Fundamentally Positive), establishing a high-trust, high-performance culture from day one.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, setting clear goals and expectations for team members.

  • Track and analyze team performance metrics to ensure compliance with established standards and objectives and be responsible and accountable for driving the team’s performance.

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly team performance reports, identifying areas for improvement and implementing action plans to enhance team efficiency and productivity.

  • Manage complex team queues, ensuring optimal resource allocation and agility in a fast-paced environment.

  • Act as the primary escalation point for high-risk or complex cases, providing balanced, risk-based recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Foster strong working relationships with colleagues in Compliance, Underwriting, Commercial, and the wider Client Services teams.

  • Set a positive example for the team by consistently embodying the organization's values and promoting a culture of compliance, integrity, and excellence, through mutual respect.

  • Contribute to the evolution of financial crime compliance standard operating procedures and internal systems to increase automation and accuracy.

What you will need to be successful (skills and competencies)

  • Passion for leading and developing people with the ability to inspire, energise and motivate others

  • Proven experience in leading and coaching individuals/ team, including but not limited to providing guidance, constructive feedback, and supporting their professional development

  • Ability to receive and provide open and honest feedback and hold yourself and your team accountable against the company’s and department’s values, targets, metrics and KPIs

  • Perform and adhere to structured hiring and performance management processes with integrity

  • Ability to deal with conflict and create space for professional disagreement and debate

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes, have a curious mind with a high performance mindset

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adjust accordingly

  • Strong communication skills

Experience you will bring to the role

  • Excellent coaching skills that allows you to develop the team’s knowledge and skill sets within your domain of expertise

  • Equipped with effective communication skills in order to interact with team members, clients, and key stakeholders. They should be able to articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • As a Team Leader, you come with experience in management a team’s performance by setting qualitative and quantitative targets and KPIs for the team to ensure they are constantly stretching their goals and targets

  • Team Leader is expected to lead and drive projects independently or by partnering with Senior Analysts (where required) involving different internal and external stakeholders.

  • 4+ years of experience of managing people within Compliance and/ or a Risk Operations setting. Payment industry experience preferable.
