Job Details

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of a new pharmacy location in Clarinda, Iowa, scheduled for Spring 2026! To support this exciting venture, we will be hiring a Pharmacy Director. Location: Onsite in Clarinda Iowa

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for achieving business goals and metrics for multiple pharmacies2. Responsible for the procurement and dispensing of medications; verifies prescribed medications according to professional standards, facility procedures, and state and federal legal requirements.
  2. Maintains and manages the Hospital Drug Formulary through the Hospital Medical Staff Committees.
  3. Maintains the Pharmacy Quality Improvement Program.
  4. Maintains compliance with all applicable JCAHO Standards.
  5. Maintains all Pharmacy Operational & Clinical Policies and Procedures.
  6. Responsible for clinical decision-making aspects of the specialty pharmacy program, when applicable.
  7. Ensures that qualified clinicians are accountable to the organization for decisions affecting patients.
  8. Provides guidance for clinical operational aspects of the specialty pharmacy program, when applicable.
  9. As needed, consults with patients regarding medications or supplies prescribed, including dosage, frequency, specialized requirements and possible drug interactions.
  10. As needed, works closely with patient in order to answer all questions and/or concerns regarding their prescriptions.
  11. Reviews activities relative to customer files and contacts, ensuring they are updated as need to comply with current regulations.
  12. Manages all associate relations functions for the staff pharmacist(s) and pharmacy technicians such as hiring, terminating and performance management.
  13. Monitors the overall performance of staff members to ensure compliance with policies, practices and approved pharmaceutical dispensing processes.
  14. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and record keeping.
  15. Makes recommendations to the manager regarding any changes to operating procedures to facilitate smooth customer service operations.
  16. Performs prescription verification of unit dose orders, order entry and verification of IV admixtures, providing technical guidance to staff pharmacist(s) and pharmacy technicians.
  17. Responds to customer inquiries, requests and issues when situations get escalated to a higher level of authority other than on-site manager.
  18. Provides consulting on pharmaceutical matters to various levels of personnel regarding pharmacy operations.
  19. Reviews daily reporting and scheduling of hours worked for the staff pharmacist(s) and pharmacy technicians to include sick time, vacation time, personal and holiday time.
  20. Leads department meetings and in-service training for staff pharmacist(s), pharmacy technicians, nursing and ancillary clinical staff.
  21. Performs related duties as assigned.

Education:

Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, accountancy, sales, marketing, computer sciences or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four-year bachelor’s degree program or equivalent combination of experience and education. Normally requires two 2+ years directly related and progressively responsible experience, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory/management role; a Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy; a current, unrestricted pharmacist license through the appropriate state board of pharmacy. Advanced degree, Master's or Pharm.D., and successful completion of an ASHP accredited Residency is strongly preferred.

  9. Must have a general knowledge of pharmacy computer systems and automated dispensing solutions
