Position Summary

The Lifeguard at Grand Turk Cruise Center is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and enjoyment of all guests using aquatic and beachfront facilities. This role requires constant vigilance, sound judgment, and the ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies. Lifeguards serve as safety professionals and ambassadors of the Turks and Caicos Islands, delivering exceptional customer service while enforcing safety standards and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, and may be amended from time to time:

  • Maintain continuous surveillance of assigned pool and beach areas to ensure patron safety and compliance with established rules.
  • Proactively identify, warn against, and prevent unsafe behaviors or hazardous conditions.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, providing rescue assistance, first aid, CPR, and AED support within the scope of certification until medical personnel arrive.
  • Enforce all beach and pool rules and regulations consistently, fairly, and professionally.
  • Execute Emergency Action Plans and establish procedures during incidents or emergencies.
  • Conduct routine inspections of assigned zones for safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness, and report hazards or concerns to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Complete required incident reports, logs, and other documentation accurately and in a timely.
  • Ensure all pre‑shift paperwork and safety checks are completed before duty begins.
  • Maintain order and a safe environment in the pool, beach, and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure the availability, proper use, and safekeeping of all emergency and rescue equipment, including rescue tubes, backboards, signage, and related tools.
  • Provide general information and assistance to guests regarding pool and beach operations.
  • Assist with line handling during ship docking operations, as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Security and Maintenance Manager.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and standards established by Grand Turk Cruise Center.
  • Deliver superior customer service and represent the Nation of the Turks and Caicos Islands with professionalism and integrity at all times.
  • Carry out any other business‑related duties as reasonably directed by the employer.

Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of a pre‑employment, in‑water practical skills assessment.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as operationally required.
  • Strong swimming ability and comfort in various water and weather conditions.
  • Ability to quickly assess dynamic aquatic environments and evaluate swimmer capabilities and safety risks.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety policies, emergency protocols, and operational procedures.
  • Strong understanding of emergency response techniques, including lifesaving, first aid, CPR, and AED use.

Language Requirements

  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and professionally in English with guests and staff.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret written procedures, instructions, and reports in English.
  • Ability to effectively give and receive instructions verbally and in writing, and respond to guest and supervisory inquiries.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, and use hands and arms regularly throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as required.
  • Visual acuity, including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • All island employees must be physically capable of participating in emergency response and lifesaving drills, requiring a full range of motion of arms and legs, as well as effective visual, verbal, and hearing abilities.
