Responsible for assisting the Director – RAAS Maritime to ensure that shipboard and shoreside operations and procedures are followed in accordance with the Safety Management System Corporate Standards and that relevant International, National, Flag State and Local Regulations are being followed. Conducting regulatory ISM, ISPS, ISO14001 audits to ensure vessels are in compliance with health, safety, security and environmental policies as per company safety management system for CUK. The role will ensure that audit work fulfills the purposes and responsibilities established within the department; resources are efficiently and effectively employed; and audit work conforms to the Professional Standards established by Risk Advisory and Assurance Services (RAAS).

Essential Functions:

  • Perform internal audits, focused reviews, independent reviews, and evaluations of any and all operations and activities to assess compliance with policies, laws, and regulations which could have significant impact upon operations, including: Compliance with the company Management Systems, where it applies to the International Safety Management (ISM)Code and all internal Health, Environmental, Safety and Security policies and procedures. The reliability and integrity of internal controls over Health, Environmental, Safety and Security. The effectiveness and efficiency of operations. Enter completed audit reports into the corporate tracking system for review and action.

  • To establish and maintain effective business relationships with operating management and to project a positive and pro-active image of Maritime Audit Services.

  • To assess follow-up and report on management's progress in implementing agreed upon opportunities.

  • To exercise discretion in the review of records to ensure confidentiality of all matters that comes to attention.

  • To provide supervision, training and coaching to staff on an ongoing basis.

  • To undertake relevant training, networking and studies as required ensuring continuing professional development and adherence established maritime audit standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Scope: Provides support to the Director, RAAS Maritime, and collaborates with both Shoreside and Shipboard Management to ensure shipboard operations and procedures align with the Safety Management System and comply with applicable international, national, flag state, and local regulations. Also ensures that appropriate follow-up actions are implemented.

  • Must be: Fluent in English. Conversational knowledge of Italian and/or German would be an advantage. Confident in communicating effectively and constructively at all levels and by different means (written, verbal, listening). Strong analytical skills. Good judgment. Strong organizational skills. Commercial awareness. Ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Problem solving: This role involves collaborating with the Director and management to analyze audit outcomes, identify trends and underlying causes, and support the development of effective action plans to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Impact: The role plays a vital role in assisting the Director in fulfilling the company’s obligations under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code by conducting ISM audits and mandatory assessments for maritime operations. The primary objective of these audits is to ensure the safe operation of vessels and the maintenance of a secure working environment. This involves evaluating operational procedures, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness. Through systematic safety risk management, these audits help prevent personal injury, loss of life, and damage to the environment and property.

  • Leadership: The role involves collaborating with a team of maritime professionals, potentially leading the audit team when required, and providing guidance to ensure adherence to RAAS methodology and quality standards throughout the planning, execution, and reporting phases of the audit process.

  • Abilities: Ability to maintain reliable and consistent attendance / Capacity to be punctual and meet deadlines / Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team / Demonstrated professionalism in all interactions and tasks.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate should hold an STCW II/2 or III/2 certification, along with credentials as an ISM Lead Auditor, ISPS Auditor, ISO 14001 Auditor, and USPH-certified professional. Alternatively, a degree in mechanical or marine engineering, or naval architecture, will also be considered.

  • Maritime Officer, Maritime Professional, Environmental Sciences or Engineering. At least three years’ ship experience as a marine shipboard officer or relevant equivalent shore-side experience.

Travel: 25-50% with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
