Team Description

At Capital One India, we are at the cutting edge of solving some of the fundamental business problems using advanced data methodologies, statistics and machine learning algorithms.

The Data Labs Anti-Money Laundering (AML) team is on a journey to modernize the way Capital One identifies potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and human trafficking through the use of advanced analytic techniques, statistics, and machine learning models. Our team develops data sourcing, predictive models, monitoring, and reporting using tools such as AWS, Snowflake, Python, and Spark. As the model development team for advancing transaction monitoring with machine learning, our team is responsible for end to end development, deployment, and monitoring of these critical risk management models.

Our mission is to empower data-driven decision-making, foster innovation without limits, and make Capital One’s AML program pre-eminent. We achieve this by implementing rigorous data governance practices, constructing analytical data stores, and harnessing the power of analytics to unlock valuable insights.

Role Description

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Strategic leadership: Develop business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands

• Execution: Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently

• Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: Tech, Model Risk, Lines of Business, and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability

• Strategic & analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, and understanding of Statistical / ML models

• Leadership: May manage and develop analysts. Coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One

• Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business

• Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials. Communicate technical subject matter clearly and concisely to individuals from various backgrounds both verbally and through written communication; prepare presentations of complex technical concepts and research results to non-specialist audiences and senior management

• Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment

• Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment.

The ideal candidate is:

• Inquisitive. You thrive on bringing definition to big, undefined problems. You love asking questions and pushing hard to find answers. You’re not afraid to share a new idea.

• Technical. You’re comfortable with open-source languages and are passionate about developing further. You have hands-on experience developing data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.

• ML/Statistically-minded. You’ve built models, validated them, and worked with them.

• Innovative. You continually research industry practices and evaluate emerging technologies. You stay current on regulatory changes, published state-of-the-art methods, technologies, and applications and seek out opportunities to adapt to them.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, math, engineering, economics, econometrics, finance, or operations research with a quantitative focus.

• At least 5 years work experience in analytics.

Preferred Skills:

• Proficiency in key econometric and statistical techniques, model design, development and deployment experience.

• Experience with R or Python, relational databases, SQL.

• Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• 1+ years of people management experience.

• Experience in financial services industry.

• Experience in Fraud / Anti-money Laundering domain.
