Senior Associate, Project Manager, Strategic Portfolio Management at Capital One
About the role
Senior Associate, Project Manager, Strategic Portfolio Management
Global Enterprise Affairs (GEA) works with many external and internal stakeholders to envision and create a world of greater socioeconomic opportunity through advocating for an inclusive society, building thriving communities, and creating financial tools that enrich lives. Our teams include Communications, Community Impact and Investment, Community Finance, CRA Strategy and Program Management, the Government and Political Affairs Group, Regulatory Relations, and Strategy and Engagement. Through our teams, we have unparalleled access to a diverse group of motivated changemakers similarly focused on the ingredients for a more perfect future.
Our approach involves focusing on innovation and opportunity related to long term well being for our associates, customers, and communities. On the intersection between business and social impact. On disruption and dreaming of a better way. This is the language of changing things for the better.
The Community Impact and Investment (CI&I) team creates impactful community outcomes and positions Capital One as the most strategically bold, innovative, and mission driven financial institution through:
-
Fueling strategic community investments (e.g. grants, skills, loans)
-
Delivering insights, advice and resources that inform Capital One’s products and services
-
Activating the capabilities of “impact forward” associates
The Community Impact and Investment team supports Capital One through leading enterprise volunteerism, conducting market research, fostering community relationships, grant making, originating Community Development Financial/Institution (CDFI) loans and partnering with and advising LOBs.
The Opportunity and Role:
Community Impact and Investment (CII) is undergoing a multiyear transformation to increasingly align business strategy and social impact; launch new, holistic approaches to investing in our communities; use Capital One’s volunteer time and talent in strategic ways; and use data, analytics, research, and inclusive design to inform more targeted and actionable consulting to our business partners on topics related to a broad view of financial inclusion.
Within CII, the Originations team exists to source, vet, and build strategic philanthropic partnerships designed to spur innovation and social impact while bringing our brand to life within our communities. This function serves as a strategic mechanism, working to proactively source new and early-lifecycle opportunities. Alongside the Open Calls and Always-On intake processes, Venture Sourcing is a key part of the team's diverse sourcing mechanisms and end-to-end sourcing lifecycles.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Project Manager to oversee processes and coordinate timelines for our function. This role is integral to ensuring the seamless execution of our end-to-end sourcing lifecycles—inclusive of our Open Calls, Always-On intake processes, and developing pipelines.
From planning and stakeholder coordination (including Market Engagement, GEA, and LOB partners) to submission, due diligence oversight, and post-award follow-up, you will be the engine that keeps our investments moving. As we look toward our 2026 priorities, this role will also support critical agile sprints aimed at automating and optimizing our tracking tools and intake repositories.
The ideal candidate is a master of organization, skilled in project management, and proficient in using Google Suite and automation tools to streamline operations. Exceptional customer service, adaptability in a test-and-learn environment, and cross-functional communication skills are essential for success in this role.
This role involves up to 25% travel as needed. It also involves attending events before and after normal business hours and overnight trips / conferences.
In this role, you’ll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in three key areas:
Build a Centralized Project Management Function to Unlock Team Enablement
-
You’ll develop, manage, and monitor meeting routines, project timelines, and milestones across our diverse sourcing mechanisms (Open Calls, Always-On intake, and Venture Sourcing) to ensure all deadlines are met.
-
You’ll coordinate across cross-functional teams—including Market Engagement, GEA Intelligence, and Lines of Business (LOBs)—to align efforts, streamline workflows, and mitigate risks, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
-
You’ll maintain and optimize a centralized project management system to track progress, updates, and dependencies for all sourcing and vetting activities, participating in agile sprints to automate and improve our tracking tools.
-
You’ll work with early-lifecycle opportunities (like our developing Venture Sourcing pipeline), adding definition to their scope and objectives to turn them into tangible, purposeful philanthropic partnerships.
-
You’ll leverage your project management prowess to build infrastructure and operationalize repeatable processes and procedures, establishing best practices for pipeline building.
-
You’ll create, maintain, and organize documentation, including intake repositories, schedules, templates, and process guidelines, ensuring easy access and up-to-date resources for the team.
-
You’ll serve as a subject matter expert on the execution of strategic initiatives and projects in a well-managed, sustainable, and highly organized way.
-
You’ll provide clear and consistent communication to stakeholders regarding timelines, expectations, pipeline status, and strategic updates.
-
You’ll utilize Google Suite and emerging automation tools to manage, organize, and present sourcing materials and due diligence documentation effectively.
Harness Influence to Ignite Collaboration:
-
You’ll work with the team to oversee end-to-end sourcing lifecycles (including Open Calls, Always-On intake, and Venture Sourcing) from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to established guidelines, due diligence, and timelines.
-
You’ll facilitate meetings, prepare agendas, and distribute follow-up action items to ensure seamless alignment across our new interaction models with internal stakeholders.
-
You’ll create polished Google Slides, decks, and reports to support presentations, stakeholder engagement, and pipeline reviews.
-
You’ll partner with a broad array of internal partners—specifically cultivating strong interaction models with Market Engagement, GEA Intelligence, and Lines of Business (LOBs)—to grow and demonstrate Capital One’s corporate identity and mission orientation to external communities.
-
You’ll serve as a strategic advisor supporting the day-to-day operations and longer-term 2026 objectives of the Originations team, the CII department, and the broader GEA organization.
-
You’ll be a transparent and motivated ambassador for the work of our team through in-person discussions and presentations delivered to audiences of varying sizes and seniority.
-
You’ll build influence and impact that extends beyond the boundaries of our team through leadership without authority, fostering a culture of collaboration.
-
You’ll thoughtfully implement frameworks and participate in agile sprints that contribute to operational efficiencies—such as optimizing tracking tools and intake workflows—without impeding the team's creativity and flexibility.
Test, Learn, and Scale
-
You’ll monitor and report KPIs for our sourcing pipelines (Open Calls, Always-On, and Venture Sourcing) and will be responsible for measuring and tracking those metrics, adjusting and refining strategies as stakeholder and community needs dictate.
-
You’ll identify ways to improve, plan, design, and manage project workflows, embracing a test-and-learn mindset to continuously optimize our vetting and origination mechanics.
-
You’ll relentlessly seek ways to automate, streamline, and document our work—such as participating in agile sprints to enhance our tracking tools and intake repositories—to build the capacity of our team, our internal partners (like GEA and Market Engagement), and the communities we serve.
We want you if you are:
-
Impact-driven: You dream big. You desire to make a tangible impact in our communities, and you get energy from working with others with similar passions to accomplish big, bold philanthropic goals.
-
Wired for Collaboration and Connection: You thrive in a matrixed organization because you know that together we do better. You’re obsessed with building seamless interaction models and cultivating relationships across diverse internal teams. You love the chance to share your perspective, synthesize the perspectives of others, and figure out how teams can collaborate most effectively.
-
An Agile Do-er: You’re biased toward action. You embrace a test-and-learn mentality where you try things, learn from failures, and quickly iterate. You can navigate your own roadblocks and remove obstacles for your team to stay focused on our strategic priorities.
-
A Tech-Savvy Innovator: You are fluent in technology, data, and the evolving AI landscape. You intuitively look for ways to leverage tech to work smarter, whether that’s using data to uncover pipeline insights, exploring AI to streamline workflows, or championing the automation of our tracking tools and intake repositories.
-
Intellectually Curious, with a strong Point of View: You ask why, you explore, you’re comfortable with ambiguity, and you’re hungry to learn. You use this curiosity to dive deep into vetting new opportunities, spot areas for automation and process improvement, and continuously refine your POVs on how we can work smarter.
