About the Role

• Lead and contribute to the Data Platform strategy and roadmap. Working alongside engineering leadership, you'll shape the vision for how Canva's data platform evolves — prioritising investments across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, governance, and the Semantic Layer. You'll build the business cases that unlock resources and keep the platform aligned to company goals.

• Chart the course for the AI first evolution of data, analytics and decision making. You'll define how Canva leverages AI to transform analytics, insights, and decision-making. This is early-stage work that needs product leadership to move from experimentation to a coherent, scalable strategy — including conversational analytics, automated decisioning, and AI-powered self-serve insights.

• Build deep relationships across a complex stakeholder landscape. Your users span data scientists, analytics engineers, business teams, and company leadership. You'll maintain regular touchpoints, run forums, and build the trust needed to align competing priorities across a broad surface area.

• Drive platform adoption, enablement, and measurable impact. You'll establish the measurement frameworks that track platform health, adoption, and ROI. You'll drive enablement programs that help teams self-serve, and tell the story of DPG's impact through metrics, case studies, and regular stakeholder updates.

• Strengthen governance, access, and data trust. You'll ensure the platform's governance and access controls mature alongside Canva — driving improvements to data sharing, retention, security, and audit readiness in partnership with engineering, security, and legal.

You're probably a match if

This is a specialised domain role. We're looking for someone with deep experience in data platforms and a track record of leading product in technically complex, high-stakes environments.

• You've managed major data platforms for significant digital organisations. You understand the full stack - from ingestion and transformation through to BI and analytics - and you're fluent in how data science and AI teams consume platform capabilities.

• You've worked with Snowflake, Google Cloud/Big Query, AWS, Databricks or equivalent platforms at scale. You understand the architecture trade-offs and can hold your own in technical conversations.

• You've led major shifts in data platform architecture and strategic direction — not just incremental improvements, but meaningful changes to how an organisation manages, governs, and leverages its data.

• You've worked on or shaped AI capabilities such as personalisation, conversational analytics, automated decisioning, agentic workflows or AI-driven data products. You know what's hype and what's real.

• You've navigated stakeholder groups spanning engineering, data science, product, finance, marketing, and go-to-market. You know how to build alignment across competing priorities and earn trust with deeply technical teams.

• Experience with analytics and visualisation platforms (Tableau, Looker, Mode, Omni, or open-source tools), or experience navigating regulatory, compliance, or enterprise data governance requirements at scale.

About the team

The Infra Super Group at Canva makes complex technology simple for Canvanauts by building foundational platforms that propel Canva's growth. Every week, thousands of engineers interact with the tools, utilities, and platforms that Infra provides. Infra plays a direct role in improving developer impact across the entire software lifecycle.

Within Infra, the Data Platform Group (DPG) builds and operates the data platform so Canvanauts can self-serve reliable, governed, and performant data. DPG provides paved-road capabilities — tools, patterns, and SLO-backed services — while domain teams own their data products. The group's surface area spans ingestion, transformation, orchestration, governance, observability, activation, and BI/analytics. It's built on Snowflake, dbt, Apache Airflow, and a growing governed Semantic Layer that powers both BI and emerging AI use cases.
