About the role

Team Introduction:
As a member of Byte Dance's tax function, you will be part of an international team that spans the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania. You will have the opportunity to work closely with various stakeholders within our organisation, such as the Accounting, Finance and Legal teams.

As a Tax Assistant Manager / Tax Senior Associate based in Seoul, you will join the Country Tax team within Global Tax and report to the Korea Country Tax Lead. You will be responsible for a broad range of tax matters in Korea, with a focus on corporate income tax and VAT, and will provide practical tax support to the business. This role requires onsite work five days a week. Your responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage corporate income tax compliance in Korea, including tax returns, tax adjustments, tax payments, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and review corporate income tax calculations, tax positions, forecasts, and current and deferred tax provisions.
  • Manage VAT compliance and other relevant tax matters, including withholding tax.
  • Review the tax implications of new products, platform business models, and other business changes, and provide practical tax advice.
  • Manage tax authority inquiries and information requests, and coordinate with external tax advisors.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws, identify tax risks, and maintain internal tax controls.
  • Support tax process improvements and other tax projects as required.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimally 5+ years of relevant corporate income tax experience in Korea, gained in either a corporate tax practice at an accounting firm or an in-house tax function at a multinational company.
  • Strong knowledge of Korean corporate income tax and VAT laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with corporate income tax compliance, tax advisory, tax provisions, and responding to tax authority inquiries.
  • Ability to independently manage tax matters, identify tax issues, and provide practical, business-oriented advice to relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Korean and English, as the role requires communication with English-speaking stakeholders and tax regulators.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional qualification in tax or accounting, such as CTA or CPA.
  • Experience supporting technology, internet platform, or other fast-growing businesses.
  • Experience in a professional tax advisory or accounting firm is preferred.
